Hello all,

I bought a nice G61 in perfect condition but the Display Shows "Bad Code Combination" I understood from some Posts in the Forum that a Firmware update failed.

The German Distributor asked for 180 Euro to get the Firmware. (Just to send it to me!)

Is that normal? Is there a legal way to get the Firmware? My current Firmware is the 1.02.

Thanks for your help.

That is a classic symptom of a blown power supply (or under voltage).

Be careful, because the more you run it the more damage it can do.

Bad code combination is displayed if there is a version inconsistency across the software modules.

As you say, this can result from a failed/incomplete software upgrade or, a result of the user chosing to run a different version of one particular module - the classic one being the user running a different audio filter - im sure someone will chime in with a link to relevent threads to see if this applies to your unit.

You can check what modules are loaded by pressing the display button in standby.

Never heard it related to imminent power supply failure.

The German source should be ashamed. Hopefully another dealer reading this will offer you up a version for free and the German dealer will lose business from their greed.

Totally agree, I'd hate to think what they would charge to actually install it. Who were you dealing with?

My 568 always reports 'Bad Software' upon initial power up; this isn't a fault, it's user customisation smirk

Agree with the dealer comments, taking the p*ss.

I'm sure you'll be able to get the firmware somehow, but if your issue is the same as mine, what you have may sound better....

Hi,

Firmware should be available from your local dealer or failing that I suggest you contact one of the HH friendly dealers that post on here.

I'll PM you their contact details, I'm sure someone will be able to help you.

Regards,
Carl

Thank you Gentleman for your great comments and help.

Looks like I have ruined it now completely as the display does not light any more at all. Maybe it's really the power supply. I will get it checked.

I will report what is the result.
Thanks to all!!

Does not sound like a firmware issue - more likely a PSU issue...

When was the PSU and capacitor board last changed...?
