I'm watching the MQA world with hopes they will do something that allows my 861 + 8000.1s to work (perhaps with an upgrade). For now I shall wait. When it happens I could see switching out my main 3 for SE speakers...

Obviously the 8000.1 upgrade is available now. Those of us with 861v4s or less probably have not focused on the PITA issues caused by some current configurations. The gyrations required by the person, to whom I sold my MD600, were so substantial, that, (despite having plunked down for the 818 and 8000.1 upgrades at the time M published the dealer pamphlet) he still can't listen to MQA because of the physical changes (unnecessary in the long run) to his wiring scheme, walls, floors, programming, etc.

When you take this kind of cash off someone, to sell expensive upgrades with plain statements such as those made in the release 2 years ago, silence is more deafening than usual. As someone noted, the mods have voted with their feet, participation wise. Unfortunately, given my relative computer illiteracy as to manipulation and setup, I don't get nearly the bang for the buck there, I get here, due to the technical level nature of Roon discussions about setups and equipment matter updates.

I appreciate the moderators continued involvement here, especially, timely tidbits about Roon issues and added features. The stall in M's product cycle leaves them little new here to tend too.

I move my Roon license between houses and the transition can be rocky. The one last week resulted in a failure to cleanly transfer to the desired location where the MS600 was offline and several software updates behind and about 2 other things. Without Marc Koval on retainer it probably would never have made another sound.

I came to this forum out of desperation when my investment in M equipment and I moved to the boondocks. I think the vast majority of M sales are through the custom install market since they went multichannel and DSPs. The corresponding custom install customer majority are oblivious to current market short term technological upheavals or fads(some may see MQA as DOA until proven different) and still have the baddest sounding rig in the neighborhood. They can always get on the band wagon when it takes off, just as M can in its own time with Atmos.

I remember a time when M saw so much angst and gnashing of teeth concerning their product outlay on the forum that someone even Bob himself would chime in and sooth the masses with some type of statement to give encouragement hold on it won't be long, even questions and answers allowed at events that now seems no longer.

They did say as seen in the 2015 CES brief that we should be looking forward to the 861 update later that year well, crickets, nothing, nada.

I do have the capability to do MQA but I don't want have to go through the "gyrations" to enjoy it connecting and disconnecting between 861 and 808. I am a loyal M enthusiast and I have no other option as I see it other than wait I have too much invested to move on, then I believe I really won't be satisfied. I am going to be patient and hopefully it will pay off in great dividends, it would be nice if we had some type of word.

Greg

With your 808v6 and 861v8 setup I believe the best soundquality from MQA material paradoxally be:

808v6 -> fixed analog outs -> 861v8 analog in.

Then you can get the best quality sound and even apply Trifield as well.

This was discussed by trial and error in an older thread comparing the connections (analog vs coax/SL) with non-MQA material and I guess the positive difference to become even greater with real MQA material.

This is only valid until 861 natively supports MQA of course, then it should stay in the digital MQA pipe all the way.

Little consolation when you v8 is on another floor away from your listening room as is his case I believe.

I agree with you Crion, that I could do that type of setup but for my outlay and their word as to coming soon I shouldn't be required to go about it that way.

I believe the MQA titles are only going to expand and I am going to just have to go about it natively. It will eventually show up.

To get back to this forum heading. M seems to be different with Bob being seemingly elsewhere. No one really seems to be stepping up and doing any PR. It would not have been so bad if the 861 statement had not been incorporated with the others at the 2015 CES.

This is like promising your kids that you are going to take them to the zoo later this year and two years later you haven't yet kept your word. Maybe with Bob not minding the shop things are falling between the cracks?

Bob is my age or thereabout and I know retirement may be looming, is this what's to be expected when he gets the Gold Watch? hope not.

My question now is what happened to the M get together's we once saw being held over there at the PP's across the pond and the Q&A's something is different.

I think that the best setup would actually be 8x8 digitally 96/24 into the 861.

You and me both Viruskiller, however the actual thread suggested it's not delivering the same quality sound. For some reason the 818v3/808v6 DAC's are so good that when digitized into the 861v8 it delivered a more involving sound. Now fast forward to MQA and you *know* it's just going to get better from the 818v3/808v6 DAC's. Think about if you would do this with an Ultra-DAC analog into an 861v8..

Now again, this is only interim until 861 comes up to the MQA technology level internally.
