I'm not much of a gamer but I enjoy Moto GP on the Wii from time to time but I've decided to get a new console & enjoy some better image quality.

Our projector can't do 4K & neither can the TV. Do I ignore the new 4K-enabled consoles that are coming out & just get a standard PS4, or is there some merit to a 4K PS4 / XBO-S? Apart from future-proofing I mean.

Lounge: Roon, NUC, Kef LS50 Wireless + 2 x REL Gibraltar-2 subs

You can run Wii games at 4k on a PC with the right hardware. I've got Mario Sunshine and Mario Kart Wii running at 1080p and it looks really good compared to the old Wii and IMHO as good as my Wii U. Have a look here

I think the new 4K PS4 would have been my first choice, until they omitted the ability to play 4K Bluray ... and rumour has it that the new Xbox will have his feature so I know where my money would go.

I don't think the Xbox One outputs bitstream so no Atmos.

That does seem to be the case at the moment, but hasn't been ruled out for the future apparently.

Well, Santa was very generous & managed to fit a PS4 Pro down the chimney so that worked out very well. smile

You have been a good boy! laugh

My middle son got one as well. What games do you recommend? I have to say, speaking to the lady in Game I did get the feeling that Nintendo is still better when more than two people want to play.

Sooloos, Roon, G series (with LPS upgrade), 800 series (with LPS upgrade), HD621, AC200, Prime and PS, DSPs old and new.

Purdeys, Moke, Leica, 'Blad. Only the best.

My 13yr old son is very much into the Forza franchise on xbox. So I decided that his Christmas pressie request for yet another Nerf gun would be ignored and that I would treat him to a decent steering wheel with force feedback and pedals.

Wow, wow, wow. What an experience. Had I spent 1000x more on a real supercar, I don't think I would have had any more of a grin on my face. And my son is having so much fun revisiting past cars and levels. Absolutely stunning the level of realism modern consoles, games and accessories can achieve and forget any thoughts of becomming a gaming couch potato - hustling a formula one car around Spa or Monza is quite some workout.

My daughter got a Sony VR headset. I'd let you know what it's like but I haven't managed to get on it yet.

Main system - Sources (Kodi-HTPC, Vero 4k, FireTV, Sat) into Trinnov Altitude 32 (8-16) (+Roon), Trinnov Amplitude 8 amp & Vivid Audio (Giya G3, V1.5) and REL Stentor III speakers. Others: F80 + Raspberry Pi and other Pi systems.

Ian; I'd be very interested to learn which wheel / pedal setup you invested in as I'm a racer type too and it sounds amazing.

But re dpstjp's request for advice for game recommendations I'm probably not qualified to speak. The only games that I've played in recent history (i.e. several years) are MotoGP on the Wii & F1 on a venerable PS2, so to describe me as any sort of authority would be to overstate matters considerably!

However, nipped to the shops yesterday & bought Rise Of The Tomb Raider which is highly regarded & I have happy memories from playing Tomb Raider games on my PS1 what must be practically 20 years ago. shocked

I'll invest in MotoGP 15 and F1 16 for sure but I'll probably only buy 2 or 3 more. Shortlist: Battlefield 1 (a World War 1 shooter), No Man's Sky (survival type game in a different galaxy, visiting different planets, type-thing), The Last Of Us: Remastered (horror / survival) & Unchartered 4: A Thief's End (action adventure platform game).

I'll try it on the old 40" LCD 1080p TV & on the projector / screen to see which works best.

I got the Thrustmaster TX Ferrari 458 Italia wheel but it will be a different version for PS4 - possibly T300 base. If you go for one and its that brand i found a huge price variation in UK stores.

We have a Logitech version at work on one of our portable simulators and on short time I used logitech I didnt think it performed as well as thrustmaster - big difference in force feedback capabilities of different versions - thought our TX was a but strong at first but having used it more it really comes into its own now in realism of force needed to turn wheel.

Also having fun making a good solid table. Currently using a modified Ikea stacking table and anti slip carpet mat. Next stage is bolting the pedals to an MDF base - that needed me to buy a new drill set wink

Would probably have been cheaper to buy a dedicated playseat but we dont have the room.

I did Spa this morning - definately would have beaten Hamiltons time had i not been in my dressing gown and slippers... Can't do that at a Brands Hatch track day!
