There are differing pics of the rear panel. One shows a standard RCA digital input. The other one I'm seeing shows what appears to be a 3.5mm mini jack digital input. Do we know which is correct?

That version (on the 'final' datasheet) appears to have also grown a trigger output - is this programmable per-source?

The final version with the 3.5mm SPDIF digital in and the 12v trigger is correct.

Is 3.5mm digital a common connection? I haven't come across it before other than the combined optical/analogue stereo version.

A 3.5 mm is NOT a standard electrical SPDIF connection, that is the size of the connector is used on Macs (for example) for a optical digital output/input (TOSLINK) and also for analogue audio with a jack plug maybe headphone, line out mikes..
When then's real SPDIF connections, it's a crazy technical idea...
