I've finally got around to listing my last 500 series component (sold 518, 562V3 and 500 earlier this year).

If you're interested in it and have any questions, feel free to ask me here!

Regards,

Gerald.

Hi,

A question on the 565 Z3 upgrade, how does the 565 handle DTS-ES DD-EX I have a 7.1 set-up at the momement and have always been confused on exactly what the Z3 upgrade provides the 565 with when compaired to a 568 with native 7.1.

I'm not really interested in all the 568 upsampling etc, but do want to be able to play 7.1 DVDs ES/EX through the unit, what are the restrictions on 7.1 support with the 565 ?

The 565 is before ES/EX. So 7.1 is decoded from 5.1 and matrixed using a Meridian algorithm.

The 568 will do and ES/EX equivalent using EZ which is a Meridian, some would say better, equivalent.
The 568.2 will do the above plus (soon) PLIIx for 7.1

The 568 info may not be entirely accurate as EZ may now have been replaced by PLII as part of the PLII software upgrade. PLIIx will not be available on the 568.

Im sure someone will correct me.

Thanks,

ok, so the M.565 effectivley spoofs 7.1 by sending the signal from a 5.1 source to 7.1 speakers, how effective is this? Does anyone have an opinion on how close Meridian EZ sounds when compaired to ES/EX, is it something I could live with, (while I save for a future 568.2?)

Also does Meridian-EZ provide 2 x mono channels for the additional rears, or two discrete channels of audio, in other words in Meridian EZ effectivley 6.1 or 7.1 ?

Thanks.
