I have just bought new speakers- they are floorstanders.

I have only used my 861 with sat and sub setup and have always used stereo for music playback

To run the speakers in I created a new msconfiguration setup with the speakers on large. Trying direct vs Stereo Direct is a lot better.

Does direct cancel sub integration?
Does direct allow room correction profiles to be enabled?

Just planning best way ahead

Thanks for the help

Yes, it is a pure 2 channel setup.

Yes, though RC can be defeated in the normal way if required.

One more thing to check.

Earlier today and other times when I have tried Direct mode it seemed to disable the subs but it seemed to keep the same crossover.
I.e I run high crossovers when in direct mode I got no bass at all.

Is there a way to have stereo with integrated subs then direct as full range so you can switch between the 2?

Thanks

I don't think so. You can try setting your crossover to 30 or 40 Hz and seeing if that helps the Direct bass woes. I hear little difference between Stereo and Direct by doing this and I only use Direct if I know there isn't low bass. Are you running v8 firmware?

Bill

Direct and Stereo differ only in that stereo has the possibility of integrating subs. Direct by definition is LR pair only.

I have 2 15" HSU subs. One is set to work with the 5500 center and the other the rears. In my setup stereo adds no subs as my front LR 8Ks don't need the help. They are active if bass material below the crossover setting is detected, when movies or multichannel music, including Trifield, Music, etc. are selected.

I have been using Stereo for years.

Now I am using Direct into good speakers my system sounds like high end hifi.

Stereo sounds Meh by comparison unlistenable if I am honest about it.

Even with speakers set to large.

This could be distances related. I will check again when fully setup.

Interesting. This used to be my experience as well but I thought that one of the firmware updates corrected it.

I use Stereo with my Velodyne DD15 / 861v8 and it sounds great. Direct sounds very similar but without the sub.

Have you got the latest software?

V8.1 is the latest, press display on the MSR with the 861 in standby to see what you are running, all instructions available on Duncan's Meridian info pages.
