Hi Folks,

I've bought a NOS Sooloos Control:10 and have hooked it up to a DSP speaker and to the Information Superhighway. I can search RadioTime, find a station, hit 'Play Channel' and it streams. If I hit 'Add Channel to My Library' it doesn't add anything to my library.

I have no storage attached. Is the inability to save channels to my library purely because I have no storage?

Also, my Control:10 is running 2.394, I would have thought I would get a message to update the software, but that doesn't happen either. Could this also be because I have no storage attached?

I don't intend buying a Meridian storage device, but a QNAP server instead. Would this be a valid setup? ie. Control:10 + QNAP Server? The Control:10 would be control, source, and core.

I can run either SPDIF or SpeakerLink in to my system, it a mixture of 500 series and G series, so no problem there.

Any assistance would be much appreciated.

Thanks,
Jason.

Shed: DSP3100HC mains with twin analogue subs, 568, MS200. This sounds waay better than it should.

Storage: Way too much Meridian stuff, but I'm culling.

Most likely.

The latest version was released back in April 2016 Sooloos Software V2.494 Release NotesThe Sooloos Core should be able to update itself with having storage Sooloos attached.

I suspect this device (being NOS) has not been registered with Meridian ... I suggest emailing Meridian Sooloos Support ... send them the serial number / MAC address of the device so they can add it onto their their servers.

Typically with the C10 connected the internet, it should connect to the Meridian servers and after a period of time the update will be pushed down to it automatically. Sometimes a reboot can help to give it a little prod.

Yes that's fine. Though the Sooloos Core can be run on the QNAP these days.

Once you're up and running, you might want to consider added say a MS200 which would bring a step-up in Audio Quality.

Carl

Great, thanks very much for the info Carl.

Yes, new old stock, but I suspect it had been registered by the importer several years ago. I registered it with Meridian in my name etc today and left it at the office. I'll see what has happened when I get back there on Tuesday.

Now to find an appropriate QNAP device.

So you think the SPDI/F output on an MS200 is better than that in the C10? Why so?

Cheers,
Jason.

One thing to consider doing to any older Sooloos product would be to replace the battery on the motherboard as a preventative maintenance proceadure. Many issues that pop up as failure to boot can be resolved by changing the battery. A couple bucks invested here can save frustration later.

A quick read of the spec sheet of the MS200 to be found under Sooloos in Duncan's Meridian Info(see top banner) will point out all the advances in the latest/pre MQA Meridian digital technology, apodising and up sampling, etc.

Have a look at Wiki Sooloos Control see the section on output card variations.

C10: Higher Jitter, does not upsample/appodise.
C15: Lower Jitter, but still close to a PC/Screen, does upsample/appodise.
MS200: Lower Jitter, even better when powered from LPSU.
MS600: Even Lower Jitter.
818.1: Even Lower Jitter.
818.2: Even Lower Jitter.
818.3: Even Lower Jitter and MQA support.

Hope that helps.
If you're able borrow one and have a listen.

Regards,
Carl

Make sure you buy an Intel powered QNAP, as Sooloos will not work on other QNAP chips.

Hi Carl,

What are your thoughts on where the ID40 would fit into your list if was in an 861v4.

I currently have my MS600 going thru my 800 IE16 to the 861. I thought that adding an ID40 would provide a cleaner signal for now. I am still patiently waiting for the next gen 861.
