A sony WP10HT, Meridian 598, iSCAN ultra,
I am trying to get these three calibrated and cannot find a dealer who knows all three so I guess the beauty of the forum has to be addressed.
A little history : The Meridian only sends a component signal to the iSCAN if progressive is switched off in the Meridian. The projector calibration seems to be either too dark or too light adjusting from the iSCAN Do i adjust the projector and ignore the iSCAN settings but use fine detail only ? What seeting do i select from the Sony so i can adjust the iSCAN, people say make the sony a panel only ??? I know how to get to factory setting but not sure what to do ?
And so the tinkering begins ?? thanks in advance

"The Meridian only sends a component signal to the iSCAN if progressive is switched off in the Meridian."
I'm not sure I understand that. I send a component progressive signal to my plasma by switching that option ON in the 598DP.
?

nick,
what i meant to say was that i can only get the iScan to send a not interfence picture to the projector is I switch OFF progressive on the 598DP, it seems that progressive + progressive is happening ?
thanks for your comment though

I know nothing about the projector or iScan but I presume both can accept a prog scan signal ? Prog + prog as you put it shouldn't be a problem as it would imply less processing for the boxes together to do....unless the projector needs interlaced. Is the iScan just a de-interlacer ?

Not all inputs on the iScan Ultra can accept progressive. In fact, it might be that one component in will accept interlaced and the other progressive. I forget how it works. The iScan HD has changed this and accepts both on all component inputs.

The iscan ultra will not accept, or rather will not scale progressive or hi-def inputs, it will just pass through the signal.
Firstly how are you going into the projector?
RGB/H/V RGBs RGsB component ????????
Also have you got bi-level or tri-level sync options on the PJ and the iscan, if these are not matched it could cause an over or under bright image.
I would reset the iscan to factory, only adjust resolution on it, save the settings and never touch it again. Do all your tweaking on the projector, the iscan will have been calibrated at the factory pretty well. This also applies to your DVD player and any other source you have going into the iscan.

Gizzie, thanks can i email you as you sound like someone who knows.
I am going into the projector with component. I am going from the DVD component, no progressive into the iSCAN component. I have tweaked the iscan a little so i will consider you factory settings, with resolution do you mean the fine detail feature only ?
from there, up to the sony, using the correct settings i think, well the ones that worked to get me a picture.
The image looks initially more detailed than the 598, i would like to calibrate the projector now however some say leave the projector and play with the iscan, others the opposite. I order SMART III from enhancedHT.com and they say play with the projector. Not sure what your settings are,
thanks for taking the time to respond.
