As an existing Meridian owner as indeed are most here, I am delighted to see the apparent increasing success of the MQA brand, another email today announcing Bluesound support and wish the Meridian and MQA teams every success.

That said, am I alone in feeling that Meridian could do more to cultivate the loyalty and enthusiasm for those of us who have invested heavily in Meridian equipment over the years and who would love the hear the goodness of MQA in our digital domains without having to resort to other brands.

Some sort of roadmap and what could be included/excluded doesn't seem to be unreasonable at this point in time.

I am suspecting that anything pre MHR will probably be out due to the lack of encryption but anything MHR + later has potential...

No, No, Yes, Yes

I think it is fairly safe to say that no other brand is going to provide an decoded digital MQA source for Meridian DSPs, so it is a case of waiting until M announce their intentions.

To be fair they got their fingers badly burnt announcing the 818v3 before it was really ready. I'm not surprised they're chary of giving any hints.

Personally, I'm waiting for some MQA goodness for my old DSP33s that I have sitting around. I would happily put them to some use if I could get a "MQA-MS200" or two, but don't want to buy a MS200 now if it's going to be replaced. So I feel your pain (a bit!).

Are we entirely sure there is an option for legacy gear? Just wondering if there is any insight ? Also, how far back does M need to go?

I only ask as there are some deals on legacy gear!

IIRC, Bob Stuart stated that existing owners would not be left behind.

Some of us suspect that it is possible for an MQA decoding device (818v3) to send high resolution 24/96 via MHR to a pair of 6ks. But it's not clear whether this is really the case or whether the 818v3 is just doing plane upsampling on the MQA...

I just don't want to buy another 818v3 for my D33s.

Most owners don't have 800 series budgets.

Besides Explorer and Prime, MSxxx (MQA) - or Director.v2 - would be much appreciated.

Agreed. Something like a G18 (G62?) or MQA-AC200/MS200 would be much more agreeable to me than a full 8x8.

That's interesting - I haven't bitten on an 818v3 upgrade yet, as I'm waiting to hear definitively whether it's worth it into my 6Ks for MQA. There are still so many unanswered questions around this, and of course over how much availability of MQA material there will be.

I genuinely do hope this becomes the new standard of playback/streaming, etc., but I do feel that more hints and roadmaps (even if they are marked 'subject to change') to give consumers more of an idea of where this might be headed, can only help in the long-term as people make strategies for where to concentrate future upgrade/music purchase funds, etc.

I am very tempted to get the v3 upgrade just because of the better digital processing but the uncertainty if I can even get an up to 24/96 unfolded MQA over MHR is a show stopper. It is clearly a very sensitive or impoßible issue for M to be clear about that right now.

I dislike headphone listening hence not a further motivation.

It becomes problematic when we get access to a lot of MQA material (Tidal?). For now it is just annoying but harmless.
