Around 9 months ago I purchased a pair of M100’s in working order but in need of a little TLC so I decided to set about a full restoration of them. Progress has been slow to say the least but I’ve replaced the capacitors and made a decent start at sorting out the cabinets (planning on a graphite high gloss finish). However I’m struggling with the grill cloth due to the odd shape of them. I’ve got some reasonably stretchy cloth but I can’t get this to fit without cutting it. Has anyone else replaced the grills on these of the M10’s?

I’ll try to get some pictures up at some point of the progress smile

I spoke to Chris Coaster at the Meridian Repair shop about M100 grill cloths. He suggested Nexxia acoustic fabric, which stretches in two direction, and so works well for the complex shape of the M10 and M100. I put a description here, along with the contact for the person at Nexxia:

M3 Refurbishment

Since I live close to Nexxia, I dropped in and got several sets of their fabric. Then I got distracted repairing the grill frames of a pair of M20s so I haven't yet refurbished the M100s. The cloths I have for the M100s are CT 64-01 (black) and CT 64-05 (red). I have just tried fitting one of the cloths and they work fine. The thing to note is that the original cloth covers the top, sides and front, but not the bottom of the M100 grill frame. On the bottom of the frame, the cloth only covers the small section at the front. What I have not yet done is draw a template for how to cut the fabric.

If you haven't seen how the original grill fabric was attached, I can take a couple of photos.

Thanks I'll give the Nexxia cloth a try. I know how this should fit and I've still got the original cloth from when I removed it.

I hope you do not think I am hijacking your thread.

It occurs to me that refurbishment information could form a new Wiki section.

Recently I have been researching indicator bulbs and screw sizes for various pieces of equipment to aid restoration, as well as paint finishes for 100 series equipment.

Grille cloth information, templates etc. could be a most helpful section in my view.

Regards I

I think it sounds like an excellent idea.

Sounds good to me. I'm refurbishing both M20 and M100 frames and have been making the appropriate templates and drawings. I'll clean them up and upload something at the weekend. Since it's a wiki we can continue to improve it.

As owner of an old pair of DSP5000s which have already undergone (badly eek ) modified speaker grills I'd be very interested in this

Please share pictures of restoration.
I have some M10 speakers which I would like to make more presentable.

So I would like to see possibilities wink

I would also welcome any information on how to change the caps on a DSP5000. If anyone can do a picture tutorial, that would be great.

Has anyone successfully re-covered a pair of M10/M100s?

Tips? Materials? Pics?

Ian

I've not managed to do this yet with my M100's. I've purchased various different grill cloths but it doesn't seem easy to get this right. I think I may need to invest in some clamps to help hold/stretch the cloth in place.

I need to pull my finger out with the 100's this year.

I recall Chris at The Meridian repair shop has recovered M10/100 grilles in the past, might be worth checking with him?
