The 96/24 stickers are notorious for going AWOL.
If upgraded from 18 bit, they should have an upgrade label signed by the Meridian Tech who did the install.
A picture of the rear of these would be helpful.

Hi
There is no sticker on them, the 6000's and 5000C that I also had done, do.
I do remember something about the tech saying that he had forgotten to place some stickers.
As far as I can remember I had all of my theatre Meridians upgraded to 24/96 and converted from 240v to 120v. These were obviously voltage converted and it's highly unlikely that I would have had the voltage done without the DAC's.
I did have two other pairs of 5000's just voltage converted as these were never intended for use in the theatre and I decided to save the money. I've checked all three sets that I have and none have the stickers.
I worked on the basis that I needed one complete set of theatre speakers that were all 24/96 for optimal performance.
This has got me thinking that I'm developing early onset Alzheimer's. I hope I gan dig out the old invoice and confirm for sure.
Thanks
Steve

Maybe you can try reflashing the F/W on your 5000s?

Just a thought but did the 18bit versions have flashable FW? If you can flash them that may be the answer? If you press display on the MSR/MSR+ whilst the speakers are in standby the speakers will display the current installed FW.
Is there any chance you mixed up the rear pair and your spare set at some stage?
All the best
Richard

Serial numbers shouldn't lie.

Serial numbers shouldn't lie but they sometimes do.
I have a pair with both sets of serial numbers (one on the back the other on the port) beginning with a 1.
However they are upgraded Mk1s. I know this as I have managed to flash the latest firmware, and also have sent a 24/96 signal to it which worked.
Serials beginning with a 2 or a 3 would definitely be 24/96 from the factory.
The firmware is the best guide. I believe that the 24/96 had revision 4 and upwards. 18 bit could not have this version.

Hi
I think I must be losing it.
All six of my 5000's show firmware 2.31 so I can only assume that I never had them upgraded.
I applogize for wasting peoples time.
This does however bring me back to an earlier question, can I transfer the 96/24 DAC's that I have in some 5000C's into these 5000's?
Thanks
Steve

Hi Steve
Can I ask, what changed or happened in your system to trigger the errant behaviour? Was it all working fine then failed, or was there any wiring/rewiring/bringing out of storage going on?
My gut feeling thus far is a comms/config issue...
Cheers
George

Hi
I'm unsure as I can't really say when the problem occurred. I have side speakers and also the sub located at the back of the theatre next to one of the 5000s.
The G68 went been back to Meridian for repair / possible firmware update a while back, so I do wonder if it may have occured then due to updated firmware, although I'm obviously not sure about this.
It's also possible that I played with settings some time ago and introduced the problem.
The only reason that I noticed it now was that I replaced the 5000C with a 5500HC and wanted to test the system.
The fact that white noise calibration played through these speakers probably did not help, as it was perfectly audiable and leads you to believe that the speaker is fully functional. It was not until I tried the sine / listened carefully for audio that the problem became apparent.
Like you I originally suspected a wiring problem which resulted in three days of cutting open walls and remaking all connections, I guess in the back of my mind I was always aware that the cabling was not to the high standard that I would have liked. Anyhow, all thats fixed now.
Also, about a month ago my wife was watching TV when there was a loud noise and then silence. No speakers worked until I physically powered down the G68 and restarted it. I guess I thought that this may have caused damage somewhere along the line.
As you know, the audio from the rear can be subtle at times and perhaps they were not working for much longer that I would care to admit.
Whilst I accept the situation for what it is I'm still in denial and am trying to find my upgrade invoice from 10 years ago!
Best Regards
Steve

Hi Bruce
Wish we got such a positive response from M UK or PPs here when we encounter problems.
Customers here are within spitting distance of PPs or the Mother Ship and you offer service levels that are amazing.
Thanks for the insight Hector
