I have bought a new DVD player and since then I cannot get CINEMA on the 861, everytime it shows PLII MOVIE.

What could be the cause of this?

Thank you
Paul

Hi,

I assume that this new BDP is connected via the same HD621 HDMI input used and other than swapping players no other changes have been made.

If this is the case then the most likely cause is that the BDP is outputting 2 channel not multichannel.

I recommend going into the BDP's HDMI audio configuration and setting it to output multichannel PCM.

Regards,
Carl

PS is it your Oppo BD93 that we are discussing?

Hi Carl,

It's an Oppo BDP-103EU. The HDMI setting in the player for the sound is set to "LPCM" which is correct I suppose?

Have you made sure that any 'secondary audio' setting is off in the Oppo settings ?

Hi again Paul,

Items to double check:

- The multichannel HD sound track is selected from the Bluray disc (not the stereo track).
- Oppo's HDMI (for the port connected to the HD621) audio settings, multichannel, LPCM.
- HD621 settings, make sure it is set for 6 channel (8 channel) not 2.
- 861 settings, make sure audio input for the Oppo (that you use for for movies) is MMHR.
- Oppo to HD621 HDMI cable is fully seated, no broken pins etc.
- HD621 to 861 RJ45 cable is fully seated, no broken pins etc.
- HD621 firmware is upto date.
- 861 firmware is upto date.

Can you let us know in detail all that has been changed (and confirm what has not changed) since the system last as it should?

Regards,
Carl

It might also be software related. With my G61R, it will almost always display Cinema, but occasionally it will show PLII, and that only happens when playing OLD movies, so I assumed it was because the soundtrack hadn't been mastered to modern DD / DTS / HD-Audio standards.

If you've coincidentally only been playing old movies, that could be an answer. Stick in a modern blockbuster & see what you get.

Sorry guys laugh but I have located the problem, it was one of 2 HDMI cables that was not working properly.
