Fairly sure I've come to a conclusion on this but here is the summary. 568.2mm, 5xDSP33's, and a D2500 sub. I've gotten the 33's all set up and sounding nice.
However...
The 568 can't control the 2500 properly. Or... it can't control it the way I would prefer. It seems I *have* to put the 2500 into Filter2 mode as the 568 puts out full range to it.
The Center 33 is set up as master with the 2500 SPDIF chained to it.
I would think (not sure how) that the 568 could send just subwoofer output to it via the chain.
Thoughts?
And as a side question - if my 568's crossover settings are at 80Hz won't that make the sub unable to receive <80Hz frequencies?

Have you set the Digital Channel Selector switch to 2 per page 10 of the D2500 user manual ?

Hi,
When used with a processor the D2500 should be set:
- Channel = 2 - Filter = Flat
If the sub is receiving full range, it suggests that the channel switch may not be set correctly. If it is set to 1 then the sub will output the centre channel not the sub channel.
With 568's crossovers set at 80Hz bass lower than 80Hz will be redirected from "small" speakers to the sub.

Guys,
Thanks for the replies! I will experiment when I get home and let you know how I made out.

There may also be a bit of logic fail with the switch IIRC. Is there a white spot that indicates the channel selected rather than the slidey bit of the switch? Or is that the DSP33s? It's the opposite of what you expect! Check the manuals and then check again.

It's the opposite of what you expect... Now that's sounds about right for "M".

Surely you just set the DSPs as small and set the sub up as mono with a crossover of say 80Hz?
Then leave the sub in flat mode.
That way all bass below 80Hz will go to the sub, not just bass from the centre.
So channel 2 on sub input and then the crossover as flat.
Then on the 568 set the DSP speakers as 24/96 small. Sub as MONO (important imho). Crossover as 80Hz.
Channel 2 gives Mono sub-out when the 568 is set for a sub.

Only if the sub is "connected" to the LFE channel [channel selector = 2] rather than the centre channel of the SPDIF.

It is one and the same.
Left channel is centre and right channel is mono sub/LFE output.

Iirc channel 2 needed on my D1500 sub with a processor. Or was it 1? Easy enough to hear, but definitely not 1+2
But flat is correct.

Yeah it is 2.
1+2 = Mono when daisy chained from main left and rights.
1 = Left when daisy chained from main left.
2 = Right when daisy chained from main right.
2 = when connected to a processor (channel 1 is centre).
Flat to let the processor take care of the crossover.

So I've tried this out multiple ways.
Channel 2, flat, I get no sound out of the sub at all. 568 is set up with center as small 24.96, sides as small 24.96 and sub as mono. This is set in the legacy application as the arcane remote setup is... batty.
Sub's SPDIF is coming out of the center. Center is also setup as controller with M5 lead to it, then comms output to 511, all other speakers branch from 511 including sub. BTW the sub's comms ports aren't labeled in/out nor does it have a serial port.
And yes the 33's have those weird left/right switches that are indeed backwards. That's how I managed to have the 33's setup all weird before I got the sub... now stuff comes out of the correct 33's.
I'll have more time tonight to experiment but I get the sense this is something really obvious that I'm missing.
