Just installed a Sky Hub and have since been having connection dropout problems with previously rock-solid Sooloos system. MD600/ID40/ID41 show as available constantly in IPscan but in Control:PC/Control:Mac or Sooloos app ID40/ID41 randomly appear and disappear as zones and are unusable.

Also the ID40 and ID41 do not appear as available to Roon 1.2 on the network and turning off RoonServer has no effect on the chaos! Sooloos Configure shows cards/core/control as normal.

Have I missed something simple or is the Sky Hub doing something I don't know about ??

Sky hub, if it's the one that I have is really bad for multicast filtering.

You will need to connect Control:PC/Control:Mac via a wired connection first then after that you should be OK. In the iPad app, there is a core IP address in the app settings accessible from from iOS settings.

The permanent solution is not to use the Sky box as a hub for wireless, but simply as a modem. You can do this with another wireless access point or another router such as Apple AirPort type device. You then connect third party router WAN port to one of the Sky box LAN ports.

The new router may be using a different subnet than your previous one.

Have you rebooted all your devices since switching hubs, to make sure they get new DHCP addresses from the new router.

If you have any devices with fixed IP address make sure they are still within the subnet range but don't clash with the DHCP address pool.

Personally I so not keen on ISP provided routers and wifi equipment. Thus I have the VirginMedia "super hub" setup only for cable modem duties ... which gets me a WAN eithernet port in my house. After that I use Cisco kit (router, wifi and switches) which I have more confidence with.

Thanks for that, Ian. It's working at the moment though I have no idea why?

It seems Sky do not like questions about multicasting. With Sky Q the Sky Hub HAS to do the Wireless in order to share TV around the home from what I understand.

I'll keep trying it in the coming days.

I know initially Sky Q was only available to Sky BB customers ... this has now changed and I'm now considering upgrading to Q.

So I don't see how this restriction could apply anymore.

I do hope you are wrong with the neccessity for a Sky hub to stream Sky Q around the home as I am about to have Sky Q installed next week and I am on BT. It will not be the first time that Sky has given misinformation as I tried to arrange for Sky Q when it was initially released to be told that I needed Sky broadband to operate it under current conditions. A month later not satisfied with this answer I asked the technical reason as to why Sky broadband was needed and was told that it wasn't necessary and that it was given for marketing reasons!

I will soon find out whether or not it works with a BT home hub

I'm barely able to speak about Sky, the longer you are with them the worse they treat you. They've been running an offer for customers with 10+ years on their books (I currently have 15+ at my current address) but refused to extend it to here in Ireland even to garner upgrades to Q.

This quote comes from this page on the website. Different customer service people give different answers.

Do you need a wifi hotspot? Won't an ordinary wifi feed do?

I propose to hard wire one of my mini boxes and wifi connect the other. I concur with your statement re length of service with Sky, I myself have over 20 years and take all services including multi room and even this made no difference to being able to have Sky Q at that point in time.

Hope it's all worth it as I will lose all my current recordings due to the change in LNB frequencies.

I thought it was the Sky Q or Sky Q Silver box that created it's own Mesh network to stream to Sky Q Minis. However, the main Sky Q box can still receive downloads etc. wirelessly from your standard wireless network.

I may have got it wrong, but I can't see how they could roll it out to non Sky Broadband customers otherwise. Mind you, it may be that the new Sky Hub does have to be involved in the facility whereby each Sky Q Mini becomes it's own wireless hot spot. I'm honestly not clear on it, but I have been wondering if such problems might arise regarding Sooloos/Roon in an all Sky installation using the new equipment. That's one of the reasons I've been holding off to be honest.

It would seem that all the installers are instructed to set everything up via wifi because that's where problems are likely to arise. It's then up to the customer to reconfigure the set up to use a wired network.

Sky Q system is basically its own 'mesh' system so that it won't drain your entire incoming broadband signal and interfere with other computing requirements etc.

So sending anything from main Sky Q box will be on 5 GHz mesh system.

I too have BT and was looking at the Sky Q option, but had been put off by the 'you need Sky Broadband!' issue.

Can you please update when Sky Q is installed, together with any problems? (Hopefully all resolved). Thanks.

I'm having the same problem as the OP, dropping my ID40.

Although Sky confirmed that it doesn't need their Broadband for Sky Q I was offered a good 'sweetener' deal for the first year and have swapped from BT with the Home Hub 5 to Sky with its latest router that I'm using just for wifi, with an Ethernet connection to my Netgear GS116 managed switch that handles my audio and video streaming duties.

However, since the change I've also had constant problems with my ID40 randomly disappearing and reappearing. As the only involvement the Sky router has is the dynamic address handling plus it's the first time I've had something assigning IPv6 addresses I'm wondering if that could have something to do with the problem?

My next trials would be to try manually assigning the IP addresses, if that doesn't help then it will be to stop using the Sky router for everything other than DSL feed and perhaps installing the Apple Time Capsule to handle wifi and DHCP?
