Greetings,

I’m going nuts trying to figure out what is normal functionality for the 12v triggers on my 861v4 (6.03 firmware.) I've searched on this forum and haven't found anything related.

I’m hoping someone can help me figure out how to configure trigger “3” on my 861v4 so that it switches from 12v to 0v as triggers “1”& “2” do when the processor goes into standby.

Recently the processor had been in the shop to replace the second failed power supply with the new linear power supply. After I received it back and during the set up I noticed that trigger ”3” remains energized at 12v when the 861 is switched to standby. Triggers “1” & “2 switch from 12v to 0v as they should. All three triggers are set to “high” and are configured the same on all sources.

I can get trigger “3” to turn off if I set trigger “3” on another source to “low” and then switch to that source. Trigger “3” will also turn on and off while using the Meridian Configuration Program during a fetch or store cycle.

Does anyone know whether or not this is a normal design for the CO00 card on my 861?

I would like to control three different amps using the three individual triggers. If this is not possible are there any known issues using one trigger to control two pieces of equipment running two wires in parallel? Not sure what the capacity is on the triggers and don’t want to overload anything.

I greatly appreciate any advice.

Best regards,

Jim

Strange, I would have expected all triggers to behave the same.

The 861 trigger is the same as the that of the G series (12V, 100mA). In another thread users reported the possibility of using more than one amp on a single trigger. I suppose it down to how much current the amp draws on each trigger.

Random shot in the dark as I have no experience of setting up an 861.

Sometimes anomalous behaviour of triggers and other features discussed on this forum has been found to be caused by the use of "Last Valid" settings in source configurations.

I was puzzled about the triggers in the past and had a conversation with support on it.

One thing you should bear in mind, is that ‘Trigger 3’ will retain it’s current state when put into ‘standby’ mode
Perhaps this helps?

Use a 12v relay between the trigger and the amps. Many relays have dual outputs that could switch power from a 12v wall wart power supply thus isolating the 861 trigger circuit from the amplifier trigger circuit. A 12v 300ma power supply should be sufficient.

I'm not sure how you would ever use Trigger 3 if it's only 'low' when the unit is completely switched off?

I used Trigger 1 with my 861v4 and an external amp. I guess I was lucky once I figured out the barrel form factor to get the low voltage trigger to work. I don't understand why trigger 3 has some special properties.

Thank you everyone for your helpful suggestions. I gave up on trigger #3 and am triggering the 558.2 amp from trigger #1 and the other two amps from trigger #2. I found a 12v trigger output pass-through in the surrounds amp so I'm triggering the subwoofer amp from it.
