I have worked with Trifield for over a year now and I have never been quite satisfied with the sound. I have tweaked with just about everything. In the end I find it less involving than plain old 2 channel. I could be wrong, but it seems to me that the problem most people face is trying to get it to sound more like 2 channel? Isn't that really what you (and I) are doing by increasing the width to 1.5 and moving the center channel back? I took my 5500HC out and went back to direct and started enjoying music again.

DS - Adidadi: Axis is a Vertical Balance if you will, my center is about a foot below the mains, in my current settings I have the Center +1 and LR -1 (this adjustment can be done independently - do a search for Axis in the new forum; there is a not so old topic about Axis adjustments).
After carefully adjusting the distance all 3 speakers should have just about the same level, to fine-tune I used the Calibration mode but the changes were minimal. I have only worked with Depth and Wide settings (like the rest, I have no idea what the other settings do), also the Rear Delay is set at 15ms (closer than the default 20ms).
I too like Stereo and Direct (in some recording), but after the adjustments made I think Trifield is very convincing - but not perfect.
Also, I know there are some who don't believe in "tweaks", but I stongly believe putting the Mpingos and the Aurios under the center made a big difference.

When the center channel is not at the listening height, it frequently comes down to a compromise between optimized speaker imaging or having the center channel disappear (not hearing sound directly coming out of the center speaker). At certain depth settings, the image snaps together, but you could practically see the speaker producing the sound, which is frequently distracting.

I'm also a fan of Trifield - although for some material I prefer direct.
With my setup - Revel Ultimas - I've settled on width 1.2 & depth 1.0. I found depth of 0.5 was OK for jazz, rock etc. but for classical material increasing to 1.0 seemed to give the right image perspective -perhaps because I'm visualizing a semi-circle of performers..
On the lack of info from Meridian re the various parameters: Has anyone asked them for more details? & if they have, what's been the response?
Paul.

I also have found that Width = 1.2 Centre Depth = 1.0 on the 568.1 is the best compromise with my ATC analogue monitors.
The width control seems to have the most marked effect regarding soundfield integration with the depth seemingly less sensitive. My centre speaker axis is around one foot lower them the main L/R pair but this doesn't seem to affect the image much.
I don't seem to get the "all in the centre" effect reported above and you can clearly locate instruments in between the centre and main L/R positions.
I agree with the need for an explanation of all the variables. The EQ settings seem, shall we say, subtle in their effect.
