I'm looking to buy a MS600 but need some advice:

How good is the DAC?
Does it work well with Roon?
What should I be paying for a used one?

For what it's worth, I run an MS600 into an Audio Research amp, into Magnepans, and am very happy with the sound via Roon.

I don't remember exactly what I paid for my MS600 (used), but it was around $1,300 (U.S.). I would expect the second hand prices to be much lower for two reasons:

1. The MS600 doesn't support MQA decoding, and I don't know of any reason to believe it ever will.

2. With the recent price reduction of the MS600, the used price should fall significantly.

They shouldn't be too tough to find on the used market these days if you have a bit of patience.

What is the DAC like in the MS600?

I've only got an Audiolab Q-DAC so would expect it to better that, but just wondering if there is a Meridian product to compare it to.

It plays well with Roon too

The MS600 is very good. If you google you'll find comparisons, including some from me.

Using analogue outs the gap between that and an 800-unit with LPSU is quite large. For example, just before I bought my 818v2 (as it was at the time) I tried my 861v4/OA03/ID40/LPSU into my Staxes and it sounded considerably better.

The MS600 as it currently is has a switch-mode power supply. I would imagine that they might replace that in a future model. And of course it can't do MQA.
