What playback software should I be using to play the MQA files?
I just updated my Prime Headphone amp and the lights are not changing. Even with up sampled material, the 1X light stays on.

I don't know specifically about the Prime, but generally you just need to send MQA bit perfect to a USB input (such as on the 818v3). I use Roon to do this. YMMV.

Your output settings need to match the sample and bit rate of the track you're playing. Also make sure any software volume controls are set to unity.

The problem is likely to be that the audio is going through the PC or Mac's audio mixer and is no longer bit perfect. A player is required which can take advantage of either operating system's "exclusive" mode.

Check your Audio MIDI Setup and make sure your output settings match the file specs.

Is it playing to "System Output" or directly to the Prime? And if directly to the Prime, is there an "exclusive mode" checkbox?

Is it playing to "System Output" or directly to the Prime? And if directly to the Prime, is there an "exclusive mode" checkbox? It is playing Audio Direct using Core Audio. I am using the 2L files and now all is fine. No explanation.

I used the latest Roon on my MacBookPro -> USB cable -> Prime, the MQA light and the 4X light lit up when I played some 2L sample MQA files.
Primary: 818v3+ID41, M6 stereo pair, M SpeakerLink cabling, Sonos+96kHz Cullen, silver DSW

So the question is how to get a bit-perfect player working on a macbook pro. Enclosing a previous post: VOX audio player for Mac VOX should get you bitperfect playback on Mac. Your results will now be more relevant. Audio Settings in VOX for bitperfect playback: 1. Select your Prime USB device 2. Select Synchronize Sample Rate with player 3. Select Obtain Exclusive Access (Hog Mode) Edit: Had to check what settings called for bitperfect playback.
