I ordered a new 861 last Friday and that same day I did some DIY to reorganise the shelf vertical positioning in my rack, stealing where possible vertical space from the various other units, to squeeze in the extra height of the 861. Wow it is just a tad bigger than the previous incumbent, my G61R.
That same evening I found out from the forum that the 861 is unusually wide, in fact 5mm wider than the space in my rack! Fortunately, other HH’s had already been down that path and one had suggested that I could remove the 861 outer case, which won't be seen from the front. I'm guessing the case takes up about an extra 10mm on each side. A 10mm+10mm reduction in width would net me 7mm ventilation on either side, not brilliant, but I reckon that would be likely be okay (even if less than the 20mm that M recommend). There is stacks of space at the rear of the unit to help the ventilation.
Q1: 'Duncans' 861 diagram states the outer case width, ignoring the even wider front panel, is 459mm. Can anyone confirm if my 10mm+10mm estimated saving for the case thickness is about right? Or if you prefer give the width of the internal carcass.
Q2: The depth of the current shelf could also be an issue, although I think it will likely be fine. Can someone please give me the measurement from the rear of the unit to the centre of the rear feet and ditto from the rear of the unit to the front feet.
I'm currently doing some further modifications to the rack so that I can minimise the extent to which the front panel protrudes outwards. I believe from the diagram that the front panel thickness at it's max is 50mm deep (Q3: Can anyone confirm that is indeed the depth?). A protrusion of that size would look horrible, but if the diagram is correct then I reckon that I'll be able to reduce that protrusion to a (slightly) more acceptable 30mm.
My hope is that when the 861 arrives, possibly this week, I just can instantly slot into its new home. Time will tell.

Can you make a little drawing, then it's easier for me. Some measurements are here select "data" and then "specifier-dwgs". You get beside PDF also CAD files and can download a CAD program viewer.
