I changed my config today to include my Sub in the Music section of Bass Management. I did that by setting my Fronts as Small, setting the crossover to 65Hz and setting the Low Pass Filter to 65Hz. For Video, the Fronts are Large and LFE goes to Sub. I installed this config on the 861.
As we know, there is also an LPF on the sub itself. I expected that while playing music if I changed the LPF on the Sub from 80 to 100, 120, 150 and finally Bypass, I would hear no change in the output from the Sub since the 65Hz DSP LPF should have been truncating everything above 65 in any case.
I was quite surprised to hear a vast increase in Sub output in Music mode as I changed the Sub LPF from 80 to Bypass.
The Sub is an analog Paradigm. What am I doing wrong?
The reason for my concern is that the same sub is also the LFE sub for Movies, so ideally I would like to leave the Sub LPF at Bypass and have all LFE directed to the Sub. I can't do that without remembering each time to change the setting on the sub as I switch between audio and video.
Thanks

I don't think you're doing anything wrong, per se.
Based on your sig, I assume you have a 2.1 system. If so, you have set it up correctly and the trick is to find the right crossover for the 8KSEs. My recollection is that the LPF setting is for trimming the sub channel (or 6th channel) in multichannel music, not to trim the redirected bass. This was particularly necessary for DVD-As where the traditional sub channel was used for something else. For example, the Fleetwood Mac:Rumors DVD-A has voice and snare drum in that channel which can really skew a subwoofer.
Depending on how you have the 8KSEs and your sub positioned in your room, you have to experiment with the crossover find the right frequency that gives you the smoothest response. Without measurements, it's trial and error, but the more you can give the 8KSEs the better.
Hope that helps.
Regards, Bill

I figured it out, partly based on #Dollar2's response.
The Crossover is ONLY EFFECTIVE if the subwoofer is set as Narrow in its properties. I hadn't done that which was the reason for the bass blooming I had been experiencing.
And Yes, the LPF in the 861 id only for LFE, which I have naturally set to flat.
Thanks a lot
