I just obtained the DVD "Gladiator" and tried to choose the DTS audio setting for playback through my Meridian 861 running v2.5. Although the DTS logo and initial intro sound raised the DTS flag (and showed as DTS on the 861 display), the sound reverted to DD 5.1 as soon as th movie began. I have had no trouble with DTS laserdiscs or CDs in the past, but this was my first attempt at DTS with a DVD. Can anyone explain why this is occurring, and how I can get around the problem? Thanks.

I'd check into your player's manual.
If it was outputing DTS the Meridian 861 certainly can't decode it as DD.
So it must be the player that reverted back to DD.
I've had similar problems with some DVD's and there are usually a couple ways of switching the sound track.

Also,I have the same problem on the DVD "Supernatural live" from carlos Santana -PAL version. It have DD and DTS Soundtracks and you can choose what you like. But the 861 only work with DD,and if you specify a virtual source and select "only play DTS on this source"(in the setup programm for the 861)-no music, just silent. With a DSD CD everything is ok. George, please tell me how it works.

It would be a lot easier to determine the problem if you could tell us what player you are using. It seems to be the setup in the player that could be wrong, defaulting to DD, although it seems strange that it starts in DTS. Do you have some indication on the player that it outputs DTS and that it suddenly stops or? The 861 cannot, I believe, instruct the player what signal to output.

Sounds like a DVD player problem to me. I have the 861 and it plays both the DTS and DD audio tracks on Santana's Supernatural DVD just fine.

Perhaps it's an intelligent DVD player and it plays the best soundtrack. ![[Linked Image from softronix.com]](http://www.softronix.com/ubb/wink.gif)

Among those things about computers that I most hate in the world is when something works, then doesn't work, then you get it to work but can't figure out how you made that happen. My RKR "Cassini" progressive scan DVD player somehow was at last able to provide a constant DTS signal to my 861 for "Gladiator" on the 4th attempt, having previously defaulted to DD the previous 3 times despite (I thought) going through the same ritual of selecting DTS as the audio option. Oh well, at least the DTS signal was recognized by my 861, and the center channel was working, too. Thanks to all here who gave responses. Happy New Year!

The problem is with the DVD disk and not the DVD player & 861, it's not a DTS problem, it's in the authoring. Some disks do not let you switch between DTS & DD tracks. If when you first put in the disk and start playing the movie in DD then try to change to DTS, even by going to the main menue and selecting setup, the disk will make the movie jump to DD. The first thing you have to do is go to the DVD menue setup and select only DTS.

mic, I had been selecting DTS as the initial option in audio set-up, with the DTS AV logo raising the 861's DTS flag, only to have it switch to DD on playing the movie 3 of 4 times. It played in DTS the 4th time.
