Reuben appears to have solved the problem of installing clamp rings during the upgrade process judging by these speakers: Clamp rings on DSP8000SEs A very good price too. Good for him.

I'm unsure....
The midrange rings look too chromed.
I'd say he's just had the old rings sent off to the platers..
Very convincing though...!
Cheers, Ian.

A very good price too. Good for him. Just wish that he was up front on whatever he's done to the drivers or driver mountings.

As the feet are also now chromed (rather than anodised) I'd assume that is what has been applied to the other areas.
Does give he whole speaker a new lease of life though.

If the rings are part of the SE kit would it not just make sense to fit them? I imagine he could just have Chris fit them.
My wife threatened divorce if I purchased them... a tempting proposition.

T,
If they'd have fitted M would have included them in the SE upgrade.
Sooloos, Roon, G series (with LPS upgrade), 800 series (with LPS upgrade), HD621, AC200, Prime and PS, DSPs old and new.
Purdeys, Moke, Leica, 'Blad. Only the best.

That's what I thought, I recall seeing that all 8k's are able to be updated to 'SE' spec, so with that being the case, why not fit them?

Isn't the issue with some of these items that require case mod that if it cannot be safely fitted without possibility of damage then it's not going to be offered for any.
I heard similar with some of the upgrades for early 5200. Until a case mod causes irreversable damage to the case, you aren't going to know that it's going to cause damage. Particularly an issue with older models.
I guess if you are doing/commissioning the mod yourself and prepared to take the risk, then you can mod away as much as you like. With these, I guess if it all goes tits up, there are other ways to recoup ones investment. But if you are a PP doing it for someones pride and joy, you really won''t want to put yourself in that position.

Haven't the SE's clamp rings got six screws/bolts per drive. The DSP8000's have 8 screws/bolts per drive. Reuben's have 8. Therefore they are not SE clamp rings.

Hi Altus,
Goodness, didn't realise your comment would spark such interest!
To clarify the clamp ring debate - the SE metallic clamp rings are not available from Meridian. Mine are the standard 8 hole clamp rings which are fitted on the majority, if not all, of the legacy version of the 8ks.
I think that the metallic clamp rings on the factory SEs make them look far superior so decided to have them professionally polished as I intended running these myself for a while. However, circumstances have changed and I've decided to move them on.
I've now updated the listing on eBay to clarify the matter.
Best,
Reuben
