Hi

My Left speaker is now occasionally (frequently almost) showing HOT. The ambient and the heat sinks aren't actually warm, but it has rained like crazy so it is certainly very humid.

I normally keep the speakers powered off as I listen only on weekends. because of very bad weather and flooding it has been a while since I used the system. I was wondering whether the high humidity could cause spurious display of HOT.

Dealer support is practically non-existent where I am so is there anything I could do to isolate a reason.

Regards,

Shankar

I'm sorry that I can't help but others on here will be able to.

I didn't even know that the speakers HAD a "Hot" setting!

I do hope it is not a setting! The documentation says that when the electronics go into protection the display indicates HOT.

Unfortunately, other than one old post, there seems to be no experience within this community, which is probably why there has been no response. Trust my luck to be sitting in India and have an extraordinarily unique problem!

Anyway I have done what I could in terms of swapping over the head units, reloading FW, retyping etc. Des Ford did respond to me and asked for some additional info, and I am awaiting his feedback. Also it has been very warm and dry for a couple of weeks so certainly humidity has been ruled out as a cause.

Meanwhile my dealer in Delhi has assured me that one way or the other he will get this fixed, so hopefully in a few months......

Thanks for responding.

Shankar

There is a setting in the setup options for ambient temperature. It's set at 24 degrees by default.

Thanks. I have already changed it to 28 hoping that might have been the cause. But evidently not.

Sensor or a board then. Have you tried to contact M support directly?

I am sure Des Ford will respond at some time soon. Meanwhile I am hoping my dealer will work some magic. Just that everything takes so Looooong!

Shankar

Edited: Des Ford just responded that they are shipping some replacement parts. That's excellent and I am very pleased that this forum made it possible. Thanks.

As a continuation, while I await spare amp boards, I checked the status of the tweeters, since I had read that this was the likely cause of the HOT indication.

Can any one tell me what tweeter is used in the 8000SE?

A Very Happy New Year!

Shankar

How you can measure the impedance of the tweeter without disconnect him from the power amp? That measurement could only be a indication.
Did you remove the tweeter to do it?

That is not a good idea I think as you can maybe twist the chassis mount if you don't take care/know what you do or what can happen.

The tweeters are from SEAS and have 4 to 8 ohm DC resistance (see datasheet) measurement with a DVM or similar device).

The impedance (measured with a specific impedance measuring device) is about 30 ohms at the used frequency range
See here 8000SE Beryllium Tweeter???

There are some threads about the tweeter replacement here on the forum, some Meridian chassis are custom types.

Did you get a response from M HQ or your dealer as you are awaiting spare amps?
If so, did you made the amp replacement by yourself or did the dealer do it?

If you do it yourself, why not remove the whole cooling backplane (what is necessary) and then you can measure if the chassis correct?

What are the info from M?

Robert

I would like to start by withdrawing my earlier comment on dealer support in my first post.

In the last two days, I have received the amp panel; dealer sent someone to replace them, and that's when we discovered the tweeters were blown. He also put in an 8000 tweeter to test and it was verified that the amp works properly with all the frequencies coming through. Now I need to wait for the replacement SE tweeters (which BTW are different from the 8000 tweeters - SE is T27BF-ME H1703-4 Ohms)

The speed of response has astonished and delighted me. I was expecting another month of delay, and things are actually moving along well.

Thought I should correct the record and acknowledge some sterling work by Des Ford and my dealer.

Wish HH'ers a Happy New Year.

Shankar

Hello Shankar,

Thanks for the update.

You wrote "tweeters" in your last post, but on the first post you only speak that one DSP shows hot. So are both tweeters are broken?

You wrote the SE tweeter is T27BF H1703.
Can you please check that or maybe even show a picture, as I can't find that type on the SEAS homepage.

Thanks
Robert
