Hi

I have just borrowed a Linn Kisto to compare to my G68 with LPS. Anyone have experience with these 2 pre amps?

As I used my Proceed 3 channel power amp for long time, so far not bad, some how the bottem end not control super nice, but not bad. I did think of changing to mark 332, because the Proceed seems not super enough for my Thiel 2.3i.

Once I connect the Linn using the same transport G98, I feel the Proceed suddenly seems more alive, a lot more powerful (at 70 volume).

Especially for 2 channel full range listening. In this case Proceed sudden become so powerful with Linn, so I'm not sure if the G68 might not able to carry all the power out, that's what I'm considering.

Do you think there's a match problem since the G68 output was not enough for the Proceed (I usually have to have it at 80 volume), or Linn was higher grade product in terms of the MRSP at 14000 and the G68 only arouund 7000.

Please let me know your thoughts.

Thanks

Hi

Thanks for your reply.

Please tell me more about the bug.

I set small crossover at 80Hz, and I used direct mode for stereo music, so I think it means full range right?

If I need to set the size, I need to set as large speaker instead of small?

Thanks please advice

When you don't have a subwoofer in use the main speakers should be set as Large.

Cheers!

Hi

Follow up on my case.

As I compare few times, sound quality was tie, the main differences was the control of power and dynamic caused the whole sound more out of the box.

I did set it as 22 in size, but the over all performance still not outstand as Linn do.

Anyone have any idea about impedance?

I guess this may be a match issue in between Meridian and proceed.

Please advise.

Hi,

What version of the G68 do you have?

I assume it is one that has XLR outputs.

I was just trawling the datasheets attempting to find out what the full scale output voltage was ... can't find it just yet.

Carl

Hi Carl

Thanks for your help. Mine was xxv version

I found this:

G68 analog out variable between 0 and 3.5 Vrms.
Output impedance 47Ω. Distortion <0.01% .noise &hum < -95db

Linn only list 660Ω XLR

Thanks again

Hi,

For outputs a lower impedance is typically better as more power is delivered to the input of the device it is connected to.

The G68's XLR 3.5 Vrms output, as expected, also looks right.

It think it's worth double checking the XLR connections just to make sure all is well.

Regards,
Carl

Hi,

You should try turning off MRC.

the G68 was a great processor for DD and DTS (non-HD).

For expensive 2 channel listening (Linn level ... smirk ), audition the 808v5 or 818v2 . IMHO, they really caught M. up. If you have analog speakers, then stump up for the 818v3 / 808v6.

Are you saying that Linn is better for two channel than the 818v2? (not saying that this isn't possible though, TBH, I reckon unlikely). Have you heard the v2 and v3 in both analogue and digital systems? Because it seem to me that you are suggesting that the v2 will do for digital, but get the v3 for analogue; which I don't believe is good or informed advice.
