There is a technical note on repairing the G series after a power supply failure. PM me if you would like a copy.

One thing worries me in this regard.
If power supply failure happened, can any other internals be affected, I mean boards?
I read years ago, that different cards got damaged as a result. Not sure if G series, or 800 series or others.

As far as I am aware, bad caps on boards of G series for example, could also take down a switched mode power supply quickly to it's death.
Perhaps also a bad stock switched mode PSU can also cause damage to caps on G series boards..

after replacing a G series PSU, I would highly recommend to check for bad caps on the cards inside.

It depends 'how' the PSU fails...

If it fails nicely, then changing the PSU will restore the unit to full operation.

If it fails badly, then various cards can be cooked! To a certain extent, it depends on the model.
I've seen a lot of tuner cards fail, and some FICL cards too.

The main issue with G-series is ventilation. If you leave them on 24/7, then they slowly overheat and cook the capacitors.
I've yet to see a G68 fan operate!

To see the whole picture, a controller is needed for DSP5000s, stereo setup now, but in the future may evolve.
I was thinking of the 561, fits the needs really.
Then I observed this G68 with the power up failure and started thinking of it. More modern, nicer display etc, but with potential problems.
16/48 speakers btw.
For somebody entering the Meridian medium.

If you don't need MRC, I would advise to you a 568.2/568.2mm
This one has a linear PSU stock, and is more reliable than most G series, also the 568.2 with latest firmware v2.5b9 sounds the same if not better than a stock G series with switch mode PSU.

I presume you are aware, that you can also make the master DSP5000 speaker a controller, and link your digital source right into the main master controller speaker ?
You don't necessary need a separate processor/controller, I do however recommend them.

The thing is analog inputs are needed.
The 568s have, but only 2 and 3 is needed at the moment.
I'm not sure about the order in which the 500 series components were released back then.
But the 561 has plenty of analog inputs.

Thats my experience to, the heat also destroys the psu. I modified my g68 so the fan was always on.

Why?
Those fans never kick in? Then that's why.
Do the older MSRs work with a G68?

Yes - older MSR remotes work.

As Steve said, a MSR will work. However, the source labels on the MSR will not match those of the G68 which can lead to some confusion. The MSR+ would be more appropriate as the source labels will match the G68.

That's weird, sources not matching.
The only workaround is to relabel the remote sources on the MSR?
I'll keep an eye on an MSR+ for sale though.
