Just received the 818v3, the ID41 card has firmware 135, and needs update.
I'm running Roon.
Do I still need Sooloos to update the firmware? Hope not, carried those boxes down into the basement long ago, since I got Roon.
And I need to update some MS600s as well.

Hi,
Short answer yes, ...
You need to run a Sooloos Core device on your network make sure it has internet access so it can poll for updates from Meridian. When it updates it will push any firmware updates to the endpoints.
We hope one day Meridian will offer an alternative to the this, but I'd not hold you breath.
Regards, Carl
PS Congratulations on your new flagship MQA ready system, would you mind updating your sig. box to reflect.

The first 818v3 on here, I think? Many congratulations!
Personally I'd keep a Sooloos core handy until the MQA roll-out is complete. Maybe there'll be a further ID41 update along the way.

Congrats Anders- looking forward to your impressions and if there is a perceived step up on regular/hi-rez material.

Anders, once you've updated your SEs to the latest (just released) v3.07 firmware, I would be VERY interested to see what the loudspeaker displays say when you feed 176k or 192k (or DSD64 / DoP) to the 818's USB or SPDIF inputs!

Me too, but first iced the updates. Assuming I use Sooloos to update the endpoints, which will require temporary wiring changes from the Roon setup (Sooloos prob won't see the endpoint), how do I update the speakers?
Won't be immediate, non-audio distractions at the moment.

Assuming I use Sooloos to update the endpoints, which will require temporary wiring changes from the Roon setup (Sooloos probably won't see the endpoint) No need to change wiring, just connect the Sooloos Core to your network and power it up ... whilst Roon is off or at least with your Meridian endpoints deselected. The Core should contact Meridian's servers, download the update, prompt for installation; after the reboot it will then update the firmware in the connected endpoints. ... how do I update the speakers? Have a read of this SpeakerLink DSP - Updating the Firmware? topic. Regards, Carl

Hi Anders
No doubt you have paid a very pretty penny to your local Meridian PP to purchase your new 818v3 and DSP8000SE's.
Surely they should be willing to expedite these firmware updates by coming to your place and performing them FOC... seems the least they can do, given the short time span between delivery and then release of new firmware... which is what will allow much of the new Functionality of the 818 and D8kSE's.
A friendly but firm phone call to your PP might help get these updates done in a much quicker manner... and given the prices of your new and previous Meridian kit, I really don't feel like it's too much to ask of them.

I would also ask your PP to communicate with Meridian HQ prior to their visit and ask Meridian to confirm .
What should I see on the Display of the 818v3 and D8kSE's when I send the following Music Streams??
1) 4x PCM 2) 8x PCM 3) DoP
with the above Streams being input to the 818v3 via both ID41 and Async USB.
And then, I would ask your PP to confirm these Displays during their Visit by sending the various Streams via USB and ID41... preferably with you being around... or else by taking Pictures of the 818 and D8kSE Displays.

About the wiring: I have some physical constraints in the house, and while I was setting it up I had to explore the constraints of discovery. I have a feeling Roon is more tolerant of wacky connectivity.
Of course I will test it.
My setup: the music room contains the 818 and the NUC with Roon, connected directly with .75 m cable and no switch, using static IP addresses. The NUC is also on wifi so it can get to Tidal and so I can download content from my regular desktop, which is on another wired subnet connected to a wifi extender. And the two MS600s are wired into those two separate networks. Good reasons for this. Simplifying would require hiring a contractor to rewire an old house. We will see what Sooloos does with that.

Congratulation Anders.
I've hooked up my 818v3 directly into the 8000SE and 861v8 fronts into the 818v3.
