To be fair the Docker solution has not been on the table for too long, but it is a long-term solution. Non-brand specific but implemented in powerful NAS:es.

I suspect this is quite deliberate to ensure a very consistent user experience across the board. Supporting more than one NAS is a bit of a drain on resources as you need to hire more staff to develop and support other products. The updates provided by each manufacturer entails more testing, validation and patches to fix various unsupported features introduced all because GenericNASdevicesareus wanted to release a new feature to allow support for networked fridges...
It might smack of Job's walled garden but I think it's a very good decision.
They could I suppose get in on the act and supply QNAP's pre configured with drives for a subsidized rate to existing Sooloos owners or with purchases of an MS200...

That is the beauty of Docker support, manufacturers will all have to comply to certain rules.
You don't have to test Control:PC on an HP vs a Lenovo?
Same principle with Docker.
Meridian development can still test and "certify" that brand X if they want, but the Docker support also entails powerful and compliant NAS:es from Synology. Without having to rigourusly test every build/kernel of Synology or QNAP for that matter.

As it appears to be based around virtualization it's performance is going to depend on the host hardware. This tech really needs to mature before Meridian look to utilize it.
