+3. The refusal to explain what the unit does and how it works, together with the lacklustre marketing effort to promote what is one of the best DACs in the world at the moment is astonishing.

+4, completely crazy, especially given the time they've had since the announcement, and the fact upgrade kits are out.

Where did you find the datasheet? I see two different old ones on the M site but nothing new. Thanks JimK

After reading that it looks like for those of us with DSPs the only upgrade is the MQA decoder.

That's a forthcoming Sooloos feature, not an 818v3 feature.

It was never promised for the 818v3 (directly). The roadmap is to implement DXD and 8x sample-rate support in Sooloos; this must mean MQA-encapsulation in the Sooloos core - in a future release.

Ok, the impressions in the other thread seem to point to a SQ improvement, that is positive and good news that M pushes the limits for Redbook SQ even further. Tempting.

For future MQA file enjoyment, i guess one has to upgrade DSP's to SE otherwise no MQA SQ in da house?

Upgraditis is a such terrible itch. Upgrade to v3 or not, that is the question.

In the Amy Duncan post BobS wrote:

Because MQA has a hierarchical architecture, the decoders extract the best sound matched to the platform you happen to be using. So, e.g. a file sourced from DXD can be unwrapped to 44.1, 88.2, 176.4 or 352.8 to match the device (important in legacy, WiFi and mobile applications).

What does that mean if you have an 818v3 and non SE DSP's. Is the v3 the mentioned decoder and the platform the legacy DSP (in my case 7200.2), which would mean that I can enjoy (limited) MQA?

Or is this too hopefull yet and we are supposed to wait untill M releases information.

Any thoughts?

Cheers!

I'm pretty certain that I'm getting at least 96/24 from my 818v3 to my 6ks via the coax SPDIF. That's from a layman's technical appraisal of the 818v3 architecture (the MQA decoder and the digital input card are one in the same, and the 818v3 outputs amazing analogue to my Stax at the same time). I would expect that, over SpeakerLink where the 7200.2's can let the 818v3 know their capabilities, you may do better...

VK - maybe I missed a thread, as I haven't had a chance to get on the forum much lately, but what are your impressions of the gains from 818v2 to v3 through 6Ks? I'm interested as that's the setup I'm running with v2 at present, mainly with red book and a few hi res in the absence of MQA material?
