My collection was ripped recently by my dealer. I restored the collection to my MD600/Control:15 using a 4TB MyBook Backup Drive and the Restore Wizard from Control Mac.

I then wanted to make a master backup which would include items that I ripped while my collection was being ripped by the dealer. I used Control:Mac's Backup Wizard.

I wanted to create a new master folder, but the drive doesn't give me that option. That's as far as I got. When I hit the key to backup nothing happens. Has anyone had this issue?

Please feel free to advise me of the best way to back up my collection.

Thanks Derek

Hi Derek

If you want a new 'master' backup folder you need to create a new backup destination when you select the backup tag, create a new folder, select it, and then back up all files.

Hi Russ,

For some reason I cannot create a new folder - that option is greyed out when I click on the destination. I looked at the Drive info and it says it is read only. I am guessing this is something my dealer did when they set up the drive knowing it was going to have my whole collection (2200 discs) on it. Is there a way to change those settings so that I can in fact create a new folder/destination on that same drive?

Thanks for your prompt reply.

Derek

Hi Derek

I suspect the drive is NTFS format, a Mac can read but not write to NTFS.

You could use a Windows PC or you can re-format the drive on the Mac so you can use it, obviously you will lose all data currently on the disk.

Eureka, I think you solved my problem! I will wipe the disk with Disk Utility and start from scratch. Since my collection is now on my MD600 and that's what I want to back up it should be fine to get rid of the collection that the dealer sent on the My Book, barring a lightning strike that kills my MD600 somewhere along the way in the process. I'll let you know how it goes.

Thank you very much!

Btw, have you tried to use Roon with the MD600 and and 81(ID41)endpoint successfully?

The dealer just told me that the drive was connected to a Windows machine for the ripping of my collection. You hit the nail right on the head.

Glad that you have identified the issue, a format on the Mac should enable you to backup to the Mybook you should not lose any data unless you are very unlucky and get a lightening strike or similar during your backup!
I use Roon with my 861v8 with an ID41 and an MS600, my MD600 fills the bottom shelf of my rack, it is not powered up.

I just bought a Roon subscription, I would like to use them both selectively.

Is it simple to switch back and forth?
