I'm running Roon on a 2010 2.4 GHz Intel Mac Mini with 8GB RAM and now controlled by the iOS Roon Remote mainly on an iPad Air.
I keep reading about the Roon Server for headless operation and wonder if there are any real gains to be had in switching to Roon Server and are there any drawbacks?

My feeling was that it would be better to move to Roon Server sooner rather than later, but my Mac Mini has no zone attached.
Sooloos, Roon, G series (with LPS upgrade), 800 series (with LPS upgrade), HD621, AC200, Prime and PS, DSPs old and new.

I'm running it on a decent NUC. Advantage is that it is always on and I don't have to remember to turn on Roon core elsewhere. The server app is a lighter load without the graphics. Might be my imagination but when using iPad mini3 the response is faster than any other config I have tested.
It is basically set and forget much like squeezebox server was running in the background.
Another advantage is that you can remotely control attached zones e.g. USB DAC.

Hi,
Is it possible to run a NAS as headless server?
I was setting up a Windows VM, but Roon required OpenGL support which the NAS don´t support.

Frode, that is best asked over on the Roon forum as it doesn't really relate to using Roon with Meridian zones. Search first as it has been covered many times.
