I'm having some problems with volume levels switching between sources. I have several different HDMI sources connected to my HD621. Most work fine, except for my cable TV STB. Unlike my PS4, Bluray etc. the STB only has the option of stereo or 5.1 DD under audio output.

This still works fine when watching a TV channel that actually transmits multichannel audio. But on stereo channels the volume is extremely low. If I turn the G68 volume to max normal speech can be heard OK, but that's about it. If I change channel without minding the volume I can blow the roof off the building...

I've tried with different cables and with different STBs with no change. So I'm pretty sure the problem is either with the HD621 or the G68.

Any one experienced something similar? All suggestions on troubleshooting this is appreciated.

Yes, I have a similar case with my TV freeview box. But I don't think it's as extreme as your case.

Too bad. I was hoping that there was something obvious I was doing wrong, but if I'm not alone...

Perhaps there is something we could tweak on the G68 with mconfig? Since the problem only exist when the TV channel is in stereo, maybe a mode setting can help.

Are you sure that the volume in the STB is set to maximum, default value could very well be less?

Good suggestion. I already tried setting it to max, but it only takes effect if I set the STB to output stereo (which is not transmitted over HDMI). On multichannel output the volume control is disabled, and a pop up box informs me that I should use my receiver to adjust volume.

I should also add that I've tried connecting the STB to a Denon receiver I got laying around from a previous setup. The volume levels remain pretty much constant on the Denon regardless of the audio on the broadcast. So I'm pretty sure that the HD621 or G68 is to blame here.

Chances are that you only have Dolby Digital from the STB, so why not use an optical output (from the STB) directly into the G68.

what DSP mode is the processor in when the stereo signal comes in ? Is this a SKY channel or cable TV ? Perhaps other HH'ers have encountered this as well.

Occasionally in the US I run in to extremely overmodulated commercials which are compressed etc for attention's sake. The mute button is never far away.

I'm considering just that. Hook up the STB directly to the G68 would at least be interesting just to verify if the HD621 is part of the problem. Should be since I had no problems prior to getting the HD, but you never know...

I've tried different DSP modes, but prefer "fake" surround on TV channels with out multichannel audio. At the moment I have movie logic as a default.

Waaaay loud commercials is quite common here to. Only benefit with my current problem is that these now sound normal
