The Roon iPad App is now available for download, headover to the Roon forum where there is a link in the iOS APP thread to download it, currently an App Store search does not find it, an Apple issue I guess?
Make sure your iPads are supported e.g. iPad Air, iPad Air 2, iPad Mini 2, and iPad Mini 3.
Main system - Sources (Kodi-HTPC, Vero 4k, FireTV, Sat) into Trinnov Altitude 32 (8-16) (+Roon), Trinnov Amplitude 8 amp & Vivid Audio (Giya G3, V1.5) and REL Stentor III speakers. Others: F80 + Raspberry Pi and other Pi systems.
It's now available from the App Store - I just downloaded it.
What I now realise is that it's not a stand alone version for iPad but a remote ha ha it's called Roon Remote!
It seems to be necessary to have the original software running on the network on laptop or other PC. As per my main installation Roon sees part of my Library-some 580 albums out of 4500 on the C15. Never quite understood that. Maybe it just see the Tidal downloads - not sure.
This kind of limits that the iPad app because it will only work at the home base ( or be connected to that network by VPN tunnel - not impossible of course. Matter of fact I use Hidemyass.com for such a VPN tunnel when accessing UK restricted services whilst abroad , which I am regularl . That works pretty well by the way. It's not needed for Tidal of course because that seems to work everywhere remotely.
It was always a remote as I understood it, the iPad does not have sufficient grunt to run Roon Server at this time. It is just like Core Control for Sooloos except it doesn't crash when scrolling through albums
It does allow for full editing and settings control just like the full desktop. As I recall Sooloos had different functionality across Control:PC/Control:Mac vs. C15 vs Core Control e.g. some things you can only perform on a C15.
Roon is the same on all platforms with the exception that iPad in not capable of core or local audio playback.
A question, does the iPad app do anything that the Android app does not?

Private zones allow someone using Roon via a remote control, like a tablet, to do local listening through their tablet's audio output, but no other devices can play to that tablet's private zone. If you open your Roon remote, you can see all available private zones in the Audio tab of Settings.
I haven't yet found these private zones listed yet though. It would be fantastic if it does allow local playback.

The iPad app is the first time I've had an extended play with the Roon interface. There's a lot to like.
However, I use random play functions a lot and my big gripe with Roon is that you can only get to see the track coming up next (unless I'm missing something). In contrast, with the Squeezebox app iPeng8 you get a playlist of 20+ songs which you can move around or zap stuff you don't like etc.
It's early days but I can't see Roon displacing iPeng8 as my preferred user interface amytime soon.

Cliff, use the thumbs up and down to pick and choose what you want to get added to the playlist. Add as many as you like or leave it running by itself.
