OK so very naive-me sees the comment about an image of the drive and asks the sensible question about how? The rest is recent history. Apologies if I asked the wrong question but it was, very much, there to be asked. Welcome to the real world vs the TOS of the board, sorry..

I've just read the Sooloos licence agreement (ControlPC -> Settings -> License) and I believe you CAN copy/clone the software. You may not use or copy the Software ... except as expressly provided in this Agreement. Or put another way: If you adhere to the express provisions provided in the Agreement, you can use or copy the software. What are the express provisions? I'm glad you asked  Meridian hereby grants you a limited, non-exclusive, personal license to use the Software in machine-readable form only for your own personal use on the device on which it is pre-loaded for the sole purpose of operating and managing your Meridian Product(s) My reading of this is that you can copy the software as long as the copy is used in the manner described above. i.e. you must put the cloned/repaired disk back in the Sooloos device. I'm curious what the legal powerhouses that rule the board think of this interpretation? BTW IANAL

My concern about your interpretation is that the first clause states "use or copy", the second statement only refers you to using the software, making no mention of copying.
Since the first sentence distinguishes expressly between the two I'm not sure your assumption in the second sentence that "use" also equals "copy" would find too much favour.

Legality is complicated; it also varies from domain to domain. For that reason, this Board has to play it safe, hence Rule 7: You may not discuss the cloning of hard discs which contains proprietary software or firmware. If you want to discuss the legalities of Sooloos hard disc cloning, as frustrating as it might be, please take the discussion elsewhere. Thank you.
