After buying the QNAP (server which works just fine by the way) and backing up my Sooloos easily (not with the Control:Mac but Control:PC, because the Mac version, let's face it, just doesn't work) I like it. My TwinStore works perfectly and now I even have a backup! I'm pretty much failure proof now.
However, I also experimented with adding the QNAP to add storage. It worked just fine. But after working with this for a few weeks it obvious that managing all of this computer audio is tremendously time consuming. It's also VERY complicated. To really make things work you really need to UNDERSTAND computer networks and NAS Admin. I suddenly realized, I'm not enjoying my music anymore, because I completely concentrate on the equipment. That is not why I have the Sooloos.
Due to this revelation, I removed the QNAP from Sooloos storage, but still use it as backup. Backup is pretty easy and just needs to be done periodically. I reloaded the few CD's that were on the QNAP and got them onto the TwinStore. Easy.
All of this is to say "At what point does the enjoyment of the hobby get overshadowed by the complexities of computer audio". The Sooloos is a WONDERFUL product, and I shall keep it a very long time. Computer audio offers some advantages, but not enough, as the advantages are far out numbered by the disadvantage complexity. Alternate viewpoints will certainly exist, but I'd lay odds most would agree with me.
Roon setup (temporary): 2009 Macbook Pro with a 1TB Hibred Drive and 4Gigs of RAM, Peachtree Audio T1 USB to SPDIF. FLAC files are kept on the QNAP TS-451 NAS. I use Rosewill (Newegg) Cat-7 Ethernet Cable on all connections.
I agree that this is where a completely stable Sooloos system comes in, all be it at a high price. You get to your music and to enjoy it very easily, especialy once the ripping and back up is done. (You do need some computer knowledge even here) However, with not too much extra knowledge or some helpful mentors, you can take a further leap Into Roon and many more people will do this as computers are a hobby to them as well. Best of both worlds perhaps.
Just thoughts, Chris

No 18 in the Hall of fame I have simple tastes; I am content to settle for the best: GIK monster bass panels, rear wall. QNAP TVS 471i3. Roon into DSP5200SE via 210/ 218 zone... Explorer 2. Bluesound Pulse 2, Mini & Flex. 596v1, 518, Foxsat HD, Sony BDP, Pioneer 5090, 2 Chromecast's for LRB videos. MS200 to F80 for a Roon zone
I understand your position however just to add balance NAS admin is only really needed on initial setup, firmware upgrades can be automated, backups can be automated.
Adding music files to Sooloos is done via Control:PC or Mac as it always was, in a Roon based system you just copy music files to the music folder on the NAS, you can map this drive to the PC or Mac so it appears as a local drive even after a reboot.
