A question for those members who are now using a QNAP NAS. What type of RAID did you setup the NAS in? Thanks in advance Henry

Hi Henry What size NAS and what size disks? I had my TS-569 Pro 5 bay with 3TB disks setup as RAID 5, it now has 6TB disks and I use RAID 6, the rebuild time on a failed 6TB is around 48 hours (estimate as one hasn't failed yet) so the double parity is a belt and braces approach, I still have a separate backup as well though. Ian Not my experience of RAID5, and that includes several rebuilds, maybe I have been lucky. Russ

I use RAID 6, with a 8 bay NAS.
- QNAP TS-870 Pro 16GB NAS
- Weston Digital WD60EFRX 6TB Red 6Gb/s 64MB 3.5” Hard Drives.
These WD drives are on
QNAP Compatibility List .
Regards,
Carl

Not my experience either but I've only done RAID 5 on SAS discs and the issue is apparently specific to the relative unreliability of SATA drives increasing the probability of 2 or more errors across the array to unacceptable thresholds. It's bad enough for some of the big manufacturers to issue warnings.

Hi, I could not find a TV871 only a TVS-871 on the QNAP site, is that the one you're looking at or is the TV871 a different model?

Carl I am sure it is a TVS-871, I had one but moved it on to a friend in need, lovely NAS. Cheers Russ
