I have only heard this (John Cage 4.33) twice in my life.
The first time was in the then largest anechoic chamber in the world at the time, in the then National Gas Turbine Establishment at Pyestock.
This was probably the finest performance of this work that was never recorded.
The second experience was after listening to the drone of two RR Merlin engines of a Sea Plane Tender (previously owned by Richard Dimbleby) for 30 minutes off the Lizard Peninsula in Cornwall. A truly wonderful Sound. It was an absolutely flat calm day and when we came to the mark on the Manacles there was a reverential silence for at least 4.33.
Nobody aboard moved and not even a seagull squark broke this natural magic silent moment.
Just nostalgia.
Hoping to go to the Virgin Islands for a holiday this year.
