Hi

Recently my DSP6000 died in a power surge and I'm desperately looking for a way to get it repaired by Chris at Meridian Repair shop.

The diagnosis from the Meridian NZ dealer was:

“Checked, confirmed customer complaint. Dismantled, removed shield cover from processing section.”

“Inspected PCB for physical damage, none apparent. Checked regulator circuits, OK.

Checked control and processor, clock running, no response to remote or control inputs. Output to display also erratic. Concluded proprietary microprocessors in control section damaged.”

I understand the DSP5500/6000/7000 all share the same processor board, just a different EEPROM so wondering if anyone in the UK has a pair of such speakers for parts, perhaps cosmetically damaged or only one is working?

Fingers crossed

Jon

Hi

Bumping this thread in the medieval quest for an appropriate board to try and fix a failed DSP6000. Anyone?

Had my eye on a pair of DSP7000s but they turned out to be a scam.

Missing my music smile

Worth buying Macguy's pair at USD2K, shipping them to NZ and swapping in your power supplies (assuming they are undamaged)?

Macguy's in New York are probably 110-120v and New Zealand is 230v-240V if memory serves me correctly... just a thought.

I've been thinking that.

The transformers aren't an issue as my 220v ones are fine. As long as the donor pair are also 24/96 the rest of the components are interchangeable.

Option A) Buy MacGuys for $3K NZD + estimate of $500 NZD for Shipping just the component boards and tweeters. I'd get them sent to Chris at Meridian Repair shop in UK. I'd then need to send my failed DSP 6000 to Chris too, approx another $300 NZD, then add in the cost of Chris carrying out the repair, perhaps 500-1000 NZD and then shipping them back to me, another $500. All up cost likely $5,200 NZD with the risk of damage during transit three times. Benefit is will have some component spares. Fair bit of hassle too. Could get Chris to carry out capacitor upgrades too though. Might take quite some time, likely at least November and no guarantee of a solution either.

Option B) is consider one of the two working pairs of 220v DSP6000s I am aware for approx $5-7K NZD.I then have my remaining working DSP6000 for spares.

Whilst thinking of these options my 861 has also failed frown now I don't know if I have a Meridian system at all, which makes me sad. NZ dealer thinks it's just old failed capacitors and unrelated to power surge that killed the DSP6000. So based on that the 861 is now on its way to Meridian UK for the Linear Power Supply / Health Check / 5 Year warranty for £600. Hoping that will work. Once I know the verdict I can figure out what I'm doing with the DSP6000s.

In my dream world I'd find the component board for the DSP6000 for sale somewhere or a damaged pair in UK to keep shipping costs down. There's a DSP5000 board in eBay for $125 NZD.

How about ship Macguys directly to NZ and put your transformers in his pair?

A local electronics repair shop may be able to do that.

Exactly.

It needs a change of mindset on Jon's part from 'using another pair for spares to rescue his set' to 'using his set for spares'.

Heck, with a transformer he might even be able to get a front three of DSP6KS going (though the middle head wouldn't be symmetrical).

That a good suggestion, will check out the shipping cost of a set of 6Ks, imagine that will be quite a lot. 160KG and no shipping boxes. My hope was to avoid the shipping charges by just finding or sending components.
