Hi all,

I am wondering if there are ways to bring the bass to next level on my current system. Thinking about adding some sub woofer.. can anyone recommend affordable product that will fit in my all-digital system?

Thank you.

As you are non SpeakerLink you could consider a Meridian SW1600.

This worked for me with DSP5000, I then added a second and the result was excellent.

I still enjoy this system today and it is no slouch as far as bass response is concerned down to 20 Hz.

Never tried them with 5200 but can't see why it would be any different.

Last SW1600 I purchased was ex dem from PP being used in AV system with 5200 front trio.

However, there are many other options available but not as easily integrated as the SW1600. Price guide £450 to £750 dependant on condition.

SW1600 would be great, but he don't have a controller to manage the bass.

Hi Albert

Point taken, but please see page 3 of SW1600 manual showing 5200 Pair with 2xSW1600 and G07 CD Player, this is what I was alluding to. No controller here unless you consider GO7 controller!

In fact please read the complete manual.

I could be wrong but your current 5200s don't support EBA and, in my experience, EBA took the overall sound quality including bass to a new level. What I would do is use the sub woofer funds and trade the 5200s for EBA compatible DSPs. That would be a more sustainable future path, of course it may not be what you want to do. JMO! Good luck.

Thank you all for the insightful information.

I was thinking about EBA, but what I really want is the deep down bass. My previous non-Meridian system involved woofers such as REL r505 (sealed 12inch woofer), which was very satisfactory, and I am looking for something similar to that calibre on my Meridian system. I want to keep my system simple, so not thinking about adding the controller.

Looking for subwoofer that has digital input (that can receive output signal from DSP5200 slave), has self control capabilities, and perfectly integrated with 5200, and yet affordable.

Would this be too much to ask? smile

A sealed Rythmik F15 would do the trick. It is a very fast bass subwoofer who is a quick as DSP speakers.

You only have to add an DAC module I quess.

One second thought, would it possible for me to get normal subwoofer and connect it from my MS200 analogue output, and set the cutt off at about 30Hz, so it does not interfear with bass comming out from 5200s. What would be the downfall of this trick?

Thanks,

Is the analogue out variable?

Does it increase at the same rate as the DSP5200s do?

I would look at getting a D1500 cheap. They go for around £250 and a lot less messing around.

How have you got the DSP5200s set up at the moment? I take it they are set to free and you have adjust the bass?

Hey Jim

I am curious - would it be worth adding a subwoofer to the DSP5200SEs? I am happy with the bass for classical listening without a sub but when I am watching movies I find the sound very clear / precise but the bass doesn't rock the room.

Grateful for your advice.

Best /bt

Hi BT. I'm not the one to ask about this. I do know all rooms have bass killing modes...even your beautiful setting (pix in other thread). I've had some help from an acoustician but still have bass problems to sort. As I understand, a sw can be used to offset some room effects, depending on placement, but that would be hit or miss without measurements and an expert's help.
Maybe others will have some ideas for you. Good luck!

Just found a dealer in my country who has both D2500 & D1500 rarely used for demo purposes back in 2005.

It appears the dealer himself is confused with how much he need to charge for these outdated equipment, and offered me to find the right price rage.. =)

Can somebody recommend right price range for these two..

Furthermore, I am wondering if either D2500 or D1500 can be integrated into my system (with proper control). As you can see, it is very simple setup with DSP5200(non-SL), MS200 and MD600, without any "controller."

Lastly, I am interested in getting just one sub, and my system is hi-fi only. Which one should I get? 2500 or 1500.

Thank You.
