A "software as a service" company like Roon can scale up as the number of subscribers grows, with most of its infrastructure rented "in the cloud". Start-ups can be funded for much cheaper than "the old days". It appears that Roon is now providing the metadata lookup for Sooloos - i don't know if money changes hands but it might help their bottom line as well.

My own suggestion to Roon is to support the most popular DSP speaker brand on earth ... you know which one I'm referring to... one which has a large problem with HD audio over wifi bandwidth ... begins with an "S"...

Roon has become stable in the last release - it still lacks an iPad app but it is semi-promised for this month. Successful rollout of an iPad app will inevitably lead to the retirement or selling of my MD600 and Control:10. Keeping 4 different music libraries more or less in sync is a pain (Sonos FLAC, iTunes AAC, Sooloos 2.X, Roon (more or less automatic in it's defense until the fine-grained metadata grooming comes available).

A total Roon convert here.

Given what Roon does already and the potential for the future, I for one am happy to sign up for a lifetime licence. Honestly it is small change compared to anything you can buy from M even if it is only software and not hardware.

Do I think there is still a place for Sooloos - absolutely and I hope M continue to develop it for those users who find its still excellent interface suitable for their needs.

Will I be moving on from M hardware - er no grin

Now about MQA ...

I'm waiting on the iOS app and better integration with my MS600/MD600 before making the switch. Also interested to see what happens in the next year in terms of compatibility with other server endpoints like Aurender.
