There is some contradictory information in data sheets and wiki and elsewhere. The DSP8000 is 3 1/2 way, or 4 way. The crossovers are described in different ways. The 8000 is sealed but the 7200 is described as "acoustic reflex" which term describes a ported speaker, but mine doesn't have any ports. Ok, maybe not so important.
But I would really like to know how the 8000 handles its five channels. I was told that the three bass pairs are processed differently because of their different distances to the floor. But there are only four DACs. So is some of the different processing in the analog domain? If so, why four, why not three? Or are two pairs handled the same and only one pair is different?
And how is EBA processed? In three or four or five ranges?
I'm really curious. Don't really need to know, but I'm curious.

The port on 7200 is near where the connection panel is I believe.
Thanks, Edd

DSP7200 has a rear-facing port.
DSP8000 is a closed box design with 3 enclosures, 4 DACs (2 for the tweeter, 1 for mid, 1 for bass), 5 power amplifiers.
The EBA handles the bottom roll-off which is common to all woofers. Each bass amplifier has individual characteristics which means you can think of it as a 5-way design.

Hi Bob, I know next to nothing about electronics and speaker design. But could you explain why a tweeter would need 2 DACs please?
Thanks, Edd

Usually stacking DACs differentially is for achieving higher S/N ratio but I don't think this is the setup here.

Maybe it has something to do with MQA.
When the MQA file is rendered in the DSP, the frequencies are now potentially a lot higher 384/768KHz.
To achieve these and the more accurate/critical timing, more processing power is probably needed.
Just a guess.
