While my post was meant tongue in cheek, it was also made noting your time is money comment earlier. To this Luddite, your path ahead to 18 bit joy is risky, and possibly time consuming. See what Ken Swanson comes up with. You might then want to sell the 18 bitter. Good luck.
Having an interesting problem doing the room calibration...
I have a digital Radio Shack SPL meter we've had for a while. I keep it in the box with the battery out since I only use it for changes in the system and don't want it to leak and ruin the meter.
Hooked everything up, found the specs on the meter in the manual (1 V) and ran the room correction. It says the levels are too low (2 dB) and it needs 18 dB. Set the meter according to the manual (C weighting, 90 dB range since I could only get 73 dB when doing speaker calibration).
We tried a Shure mic just to see what it would do... even worse results.
I have tried 3 different cables as well... I know it isn't "required" but I would LIKE to have it dialed into the room if possible.
Well, I thought I'd revive this thread a bit to go over some interesting things I ran into this weekend...
As a refresher...this is how the system was set up before:
We had a close lightning strike here a while back...and the DSP5000HC speaker started crackling and hissing and so I shut it off and figured I'd get to it when I had time.
After figuring out it was going to be cheaper to just upgrade the damn thing instead of fixing it...I found a nice used DSP5200HC on eBay that was in piano black like my DSP7000's. I got it delivered Saturday morning and started the process of replacement. What started as an hour job quickly escalated into a couple hours on Saturday and then more time Sunday troubleshooting why I wasn't getting Comms from the master (L) to the rest of the gear. I carefully traced every cable run to make sure it was correct...reset the speakers multiple times and still no joy.
THEN, I went thru the Meridian Configuration Program and looked at what the program had done to my layouts and saw the problem! It had rearranged my signal paths for the Comms, now going from (L) Master, to Center (slave) and then Right (slave).
I reset the G68, arranged the Comms in the order it asked for, fired it up and I had my system back online and operational!
Watched Avatar last night...forgot how sweet this system sounds when everything works properly.
