Take a look at this link.

Especially noteworthy is the impact on both Streaming music as well as Purchased Downloads.

More evidence that the Stupidity of the Music labels knows no bounds... as does their willingness to deceive, while charging for the privilege.

Depressing. But don't worry... the watermark will sound super rendered via MQA !!!

Will need to be a very specific question for both Bob and Tidal though.

"Will MQA Tracks on Tidal have Watermarking from ANY Label?".

Bob has already answered the question about DRM... so IMHO, just as specific an answer is required about Watermarking... Especially when it's something that's Audible and impacts on Sound Quality.

Watermarking should be unnecessary with MQA as the files are cryptographically verified; the A in MQA.

Agreed... but Watermarking was also "unnecessary" on DVD-A's Encrypted MLP or Bluray Audio from some Labels... or on Spotify's streams, which result in an encrypted file on a User's PC or Phone?

And yet, that doesn't stop the Labels from insisting on it... as per the info above.

And DRM wasn't "necessary" either... but as can be seen from Bob's response re DRM, it was still a part of the early to mid-term discussions about MQA.

The Labels have a different opinion about what's "necessary" to the rest of the sane people in the world.

The logic in this amazes me. Let's promote the highest possible quality streaming to get people away from MP3 - and then ruin it by watermarking.

Dumb.
