I have a peculiar problem with my Sonos (Connect based) system operating at FIXED level. My Sonos reads off a NAS and feeds SPDIF into Digital Input 1 of my 861v8.
For some months now I have been feeling that the volume levels for a given volume setting are lower than they used to be. I therefore did a test of the Sonos vs. streaming audio of a reference FLAC from the same NAS via my Oppo BDP, into the same Digital Input of my 861v8, and I confirmed that the Oppo stream as well as the CD played from Oppo were both +15dB relative to the FLAC streamed via Sonos. To arrive at the problem area by a process of elimination, I did the following:
1. NAS/FLAC to Sonos Connect to 861v8: Level 60dB -Reference
2. NAS/FLAC to another Sonos Connect to 861v8: Level 60dB -Rules out hardware issue with Sonos Connect
3. CD to 861v8: Level 75dB - This is the original level
4. NAS/FLAC to Oppo BDP to same Digital Input of 861v8: Level 75dB - And, the original level is reproduced from the same FLAC with a different streamer. Thus FLAC normalization tag issues are ruled out.
Spotify and Internet Radio from Sonos is at the right level.
This was not the case earlier. I suspect some firmware upgrade at some stage has drastically lowered the output level, or there is some new Sonos setting that I am unaware of.
I know this is not strictly a Meridian Issue, but just reaching out to the Forum to see if anyone has ideas.

Looking on the Sonos forums it seems to be an issue related to a fw update that has changed output volume, have a look on their forums for workarounds.
