Hello,

I just bought Meridian D2500 sub-woofer, while the previous owner says it works.
I have connected the sub to my Denon AVR-987 via pre sub out. The sub would not get a test tone. There is power going to sub and when I turn it on I can hear a thump.

Please help me to resolve the issue.

Thanks

Assuming you are feeding it a digital signal have you tried pressing the little red reset button on the back?

regards

Chris

A quick glance at the Denon user manual suggests that it has analogue RCA sub outputs.

The D2500 requires a digital SPDIF PCM feed and needs to be paired with a Meridian DSP speaker as it is not capable of being a "Master" (i.e. switching itself on and off, etc.) on its own.

See the D2500 user manual

I have to agree with Gianni, the D2500 signifies it's the digital version which requires a Meridian Processor with SPDID outputs for Meridian active speakers.

You need the M2500 version which is the Analogue version which would take the line level output from your AVR.

Thanks Guys for responding.
Is there a work around? Or, the only way for the Sub to work is with the Meridian Processor?

Sounds like you need to upgrade to a Meridian processor grin

The alternatives are some DSP5000 or DSP33 - latter dont have any integrated IR control. The D1500 and D2500 have a filter designed to match these DSP speakers allowing easy hook up. Other speakers may also work but YMMV.

Hello,

If I get the Meridian 565 or 568 processor, then I can use the D2500 sub-woofer?
Would the sub works with 562v3?

Thanks

Ian,

Just to clarify, would the sub work with Meridian 568? And, without the need to get Meridian DSP speakers?

Thanks for your help.

You could try use an AD converter on your sub outs, they are not expensive these days.

Yes. The 568 has analogue and digital out so volume control would be unified across the different outputs but also needs 5S slave comms originating from a Master DSP speaker

However, if you are thinking of sticking with the Denon and adding the 568, I think you may run in to problems, not least with integrating volume.

Not sure if you are aware, but DSP speakers, including the D2500 expect a full range digital signal. Volume control information is then passed over the comms lead (you may be short of the M-lead that would be required between processor and first DSP speaker - IIRC that D2500 will come with the slightly different S-lead) and it is the DSP speaker itself that does the physical volume control using a hybrid analogue/digital control. If you attenuate the signal before this, then, IMHO, you are losing one of the key benefits of using DSP speakers, that is keeping full range digital signal rather than compromising/truncating resolution of the signal.

Just double checked Giannis comment below and D2500 does indeed need a DSP speakers slave output (directly or indirectly via a patch/Y lead) to operate.

And only a DSP set to Master can mediate that volume control (direct or from a processor) in itself and in other Slave speakers. A D2500 cannot be set to Master, it is a Slave that must be comms controlled from a Master speaker.

I second that as the least cost solution.
