Hi Everyone,

I wanted to let you know that Meridian has agreed a deal to transfer the companys software applications business to a newly established entity, Roon Labs, headed up by Enno Vandermeer. I am sure that you will see this announcement appear across other media outlets but wanted to share this information with you all directly.

This news is very positive for both the newly formed Roon Labs and for Meridian Audio, allowing each company to grow by concentrating upon their core strengths.

Moving forwards our Meridian Sooloos product range remains at the forefront of our plans with a number of new features and developments planned - the recent integration of TIDAL's high fidelity music streaming service is just one of these.

Exciting times ahead!

Kind regards,
John

Hi John,

Many thanks for taking the time out to post this on our forum.
I'm sure there will be lots of questions on this and hopefully both Meridian and the Roon Labs teams will be at hand to help guide users.

Regards,
Carl

It would be very interested to understand what this means in terms of the components of the Sooloos ecosystem.

The MS200, MS600 and ID40/ID41 cards are hardware components and presumably the associated software remains the IP of Meridian.

Apps for mobile devices (iPhones, etc.) are presumably software that will pass to Roon.

The situation with the MD600 and/or C15 is not so clear.

And whither Control:PC/Mac/Web?

As John says in his message, Meridian remains committed to Sooloos. Sooloos 2.2 (including all the apps you mentioned) is still part of Meridian, as is all the Meridian hardware.

It's only subsequent developments which are not.

We have set up a new sub-forum here.

Our intention is to support Meridian users who wish to discuss Roon within a Meridian context.

There is already a Roon Labs community here should you wish to discuss Roon streaming to non-Meridian hardware.

I agree with Michael Lavorgna, Danny & Enno have built up & continue to support an amazingly powerful product that just happens to service my addiction, err, hobby for listening to music. Eagerly awaiting next week's product announcement... (see Roon blog for details).

So does this mean, as an example, that we can expect a Sooloos client for say Android phones and tablets?

May I humbly suggest Meridian put together an FAQ to address the questions many passionate Sooloos fans will inevitably have?

The cynic in me interprets this as M losing control over a major competitive advantage not to make light of the excellent hardware and processing software M makes. If some of us were worried about the slow progress in Sooloos software development, what are we to think now that M no longer controls Sooloos software dev?

I'm sure this deal was thought through and that there's a lot of nuance outsiders are not aware of, but that's why a change like this should be accompanied with a FAQ.

Hi all,

For clarity I'd like to chip in here and state that Roon is not Sooloos, though it can drive Meridian hardware. Meridian will still control and develop the Sooloos application in house as it does today.

I see Enno has now posted a Roon Introduction that gives some more details.

Regards,
Carl

This will be excellent if you can have a Roon core software (running on a standard PC or Mac) and use Meridian Endpoints.

Meridian have already outsourced Store products (QNAP) and Control (iPad).

Surely it makes most sense for them to focus and spend their development budget on better and better endpoints than the rest of the computer based ecosystem.
