Something Different If you like the harmonica here is an album that is extraordinary. Will Pound, "A Cut Above" and he certainly is. A prodigious young talent and beautifully recorded with great support from backing musicians especially the bass player on Amazing Grace (as you have never heard it before). Hector

Muse - Live At Rome Olympic Stadium (Blu-ray soundtrack).
Muse are so good live. I love the 'Once-upon-a-time-in-the-West' style intro to Knights of Cydonia

+ 1 for Muse
The magic swim function brought me back to an oldie; Peter Gabriel 3, a wonderfull album, sounds remarkably good as well as most of his albums.

Here are two that I don't think have been mentioned.
Bonnie Prince Billy: Master & Everyone. Bon Iver: For Emma, Forever Ago.
I'm not actually sure what genre they fit into; probably indie/ folk but they don't sound like any folk music I've heard. Both have the stripped-back sound of Springsteen's brilliant Nebraska album; bleak, simple, acoustic pieces.
Bonnie Prince Billy's "I See A Darkness" is a belter too but not as great as Master & Everyone.
Out of interest, Bon Iver is a play on words; think French for 'good winter'. On the same theme, since moving to Italy I've discovered the origins of Carnival. Carne is Italian for meat, Vale means Farewell, so 'farewell meat' ie what many do during Lent.
I'll get my coat.

For any fans of Mary Chapin Carpenter or anyone else out there who would appreciate the very best from their system the album "Songs From The Movie" is something special. Returning to her songbook, but this time with a 63 piece orchestra plus choir, this selection recorded in London in collaboration with Vince Mendoza is truly luscious. This is now a reference recording for me! This will be very hard to beat. Enjoy Hector

I felt lucky a friend of mine pointed me to the prog rock album In Extremis from Days between Stations. If you are into prog rock, just buy it. Info

Definitely worth a listen, Lianne La Havas album Is Your Love Big Enough. She is described as an English folk and soul singer but to me there is a bit of jazz/pop thrown in!
Another album that shows off just how superb Meridian kit is, one for the demo list!
Regards Dave

I just discovered that Steve Wilson (Porcupine Tree) is re-mixing Yes albums to 5.1 from scratch. Close to the Edge came out last year on DVD-A and Bluray. I just received the Bluray and I'm blown away by the experience. If you're a fan of the band, this is required listening. The Yes Album comes out this month.
Regards, Bill

I remember playing with a Halfer set-up in the 70s, connecting a third rear speaker across the positive connections of the L&R channels; made Close to the Edge swirl around the listener in a fun way.
Just received 'Out Among the Stars' by Johnny Cash. Challenging, funny, angry, spiritual all at once; highly recommended.
