Do you think raising the 5200s off the ground by 12 inches would change their sound characteristics?
I would like to raise four of the five 5200s about 12 inches off the ground to get better height out of them.
Since some modifications to the Home Theatre, I am now sitting higher off the ground due to a combination of adding a raised wooden floor beneath the new seats and the fact that these new seats themselves are bigger/higher off the ground.
I feel the height of the sound stage is lower than before and thought that possibly "raising" the 5200s would be a solution, any thoughts on this?
Now how and with what kind of material would you use to make a 5200 "base"?
Would you simply buy/make an open/hollow type of base (like a small table/bench) or would the base have to be made of a solid material like a granite or hard wood block?
TIA

I think something like the base of a DSP8000 would do nicely

It's a very good question. I've wondered if doing so would increase the scale of the 5200s (i.e. get you somewhere closer to 7200s, which is no doubt what you are thinking). The 7200s and 8000s do have more rigid cabinets though.

Hi,
Yes it would, speakers are designed with boundaries, one being the floor in this case, so effectively you change the boundary characteristics.
However it is complicated by you raising your seating position.
Try it using some building blocks and if it works build something that is solid and aesthetically pleasing

Isn't the Axis control supposed to be used to compensate for ear height above or below tweeter height?

If you want something more permanent, you could create a similar raised floor, split internally into sections and filled (packed) with sand.

Isn't the Axis control supposed to be used to compensate for ear height above or below tweeter height? I have tried that and it doesn't seem to do much IMO. I feel since the switch over to the 5200s and perhaps the new floor seating arrangement, the sound stage height is not the same anymore. Instruments and voices that appeared to be above the speakers in height before are now coming directly from the speakers.

Put some bigger feet under the front so they're firing slightly upwards?
