My RAID back up took a dump so I'm redoing a complete library backup. (It a long story as to why it took a dump, let's just say I screwed up and it's no longer available)
But... I've been having a problem with power supplies and one of my two TwinStores I can't seem to get fired up.
So after backing up the first TwinStore to a "TwinStore Backup #1" Folder, I put the drives from the second TwinStore into the first TwinStore and created a "TwinStore Backup #2 Folder.
So my media is backed up to two different folders.
I am switching my library from the 2 TwinStores to a QNAP NAS.
My question is how to I combine the two backups when I run the Restore Wizard to migrate the two backups to the QNAP NAS?
Any help is appreciated. Thanks in advance.
Control:15, TwinStores (2) w/Seagate ST33000651AS 3TB Drives, SourceOne, Drobo D5 Storage, Messenger Preamp, Ayon Skylla II DAC, Gamut D200 MKIII Amps, Dali Euphonia MS-5, CS-4, AS-2, RS-3 Speakers.
You don't need to combine both backups. Using Control:PC / Control:Mac just restore the first backup (folder1) then once it has completed restore the second backup (folder2), the result will be one Sooloos library on your QNAP.
Do remember to turn off all other storage, for example on your C15 and ensure you TwinStores are disconnected and or turned off otherwise your library will be spread over more than your QNAP.
Regarding your TwinStore not powering on, I assume you have swapped the PSU's over? If yes then have a look at this TwinStore power fault thread, feel free to PM me for more details, and have a look at the TwinStore inside photographs.
Do run the Sooloos Interrogator on your library before you start the transfer process. You can do this per store, so it doesn't matter if they are not both online at the same time. Also make sure that you rename the first output file from the Interrogator before running it a second time as it can overwrite.
Then once you've finished the restore onto QNAP you can run the Interrogator again to make sure that you are not missing any albums.
Sooloos, Roon, G series (with LPS upgrade), 800 series (with LPS upgrade), HD621, AC200, Prime and PS, DSPs old and new.

Will do. Thanks!

Of course, any Gigabit router or any CAT6 network cable will do. Regarding the QNAP, it is, by far, the best choice. It is slim, powerful, totally silent, cheap and better than expected looking. And, of course, it works with Meridian!
Now, let`s do it:
- Create a network only for the purpose of the backup, so that the traffic won`t be shared between the backup procedure and the rest of your internet-hungry toys. Part of this network should be The Control:10 or Control:15, both TwinStores and your MAC. Nothing else. It is imperative that you use CAT6 cables, otherwise the network speed will fall to 100 Mb
- DO NOT use Source:One as a Core (I have one, also, that's how I know), it is an excellent player, but the processor is weak, it will slow down the procedure. Go for the C10 or C15 as a Core, it is way faster
- On your MAC, under ENERGY SAVER preferences, set the computer sleep to NEVER (remember to return it to it's previous state when done with your backup).
- Using a USB 3.0 to SATA adapter, connect your 8TB HDD that will hold your backup to your MAC. Go to FINDER, APPLICATIONS, UTILITIES, DISK UTILITY and ERASE the 8TB HDD attached.
- Perform the backup using Control:Mac. It should work at a rate of 6 CD's per min.
- Now, let`s prepare the QNAP: it is important that you follow step-by-step Meridian`s tutorial. Important would be to disable the power saver mode and all the other bundled services, that you will never need.
If you will accept my advice and go for the model recommended by me, I will send some screen-shots from my configuration pages if you will need them. I did not listen to Meridian`s advice and I have upgraded the QNAP to the latest software version. It works flawlessly.
- You must know that a QNAP will boot in about 60 to 70 seconds, this doesn't mean it is slow. The TwinStore contains a trimmed software version performing just one task, while QNAP is far more complex. And silent. The down side: not as good looking as the TwinStore.
Providing my English has a few things in common with the real English, I hope that it will be useful.
good guide - impressed you are using the new Seagate 8Tb archive drives ... in Raid 0 mode even! you must have a huge CD collection ! In theory, the new Seagate shingled drives should be an excellent fit to a music file server ... mostly read, not a lot of updates (metadata grooming excepted)
