Aside from the 800 series DVD player if I'm not mistaking the only other DVD-A players made in the past by Meridian were the 598 and G98 units.

I already have a 602 CD Transport for CDs listening of Cds albums and I use an Oppo 93 for DVD's and Bly-Ray disks for movie viewing and for listening to SACDs and DVD-A disks.

Now before I proceed to my questions, after some listening to CDs albums on both my 602 and Oppo 93 it seems the 602 is better in many ways.

Now not only when comparing CD to CD but also when playing the same album on a CD on the 602 and then comparing the SACD album on the Oppo the advantage remains with the 602!

This brings up a thought that perhaps a DVD-A disk being played with the Oppo 93 would also sound inferior to a DVD-A being player with a 598 or G98.

Keeping in mind that if I decide to purchase a used 598 or G98, it would be for the purpose of listening to DVD-A audio only (well perhaps DVD viewing too).

Here are my questions...

- What is the difference between the 598 and G98?

- Is the G98 vastly superior to the 598 (musically), worth the extra money?

- Will a 598 or G98 work/communicate properly with my current set up of the G65/HD621 system especially the G65's remote?

Thank you.

I think, but lack certainty, that an upgrade was offered.

596 is a CD, VCD and DVD-Video player. Many customers are mainly interested in a very high performance player for movies and CD and 596 is the perfect choice.

A high performance DVD-Audio player has considerably more hardware on board to support multichannel high-resolution audio and will cost more.

If you are looking for a high performance DVD-Audio player then please consider the upcoming 598, see Q. 5. There may be upgrade paths to allow 596 to play DVD-Audio, but this is a complex topic, see questions 72, 73 and 74.

Thank you... I don't know how I missed that.

You are correct the 596 does not play DVD-A so I guess it's out!

I will "edit" the original post to read the differences between the 598 and G98.

My lasting memories was the 598 was more musical, G98 was more clinical

In hindsight, I regretted moving from 598 to G98 but part of that was down to form factor.
