Moderator -

I'm not sure if this is allowed - if not, please accept my apologies, and feel free to delete this message.

Everyone else:

I'm currently selling some of my Meridian kit on eBay (UK/Europe only) as I'm going to be upgrading to a G91.

You can view these items at the following URL:
http://cgi6.eBay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI...de=0&since=-1&sort=3&rows=50

When I have a confirmed delivery date for the G91, I'll be adding my 565 as well.

Once more, apologies if this is against forum rules (although I'm sure I've seen others doing this), and please delete this message if it is not allowed.

Gerald.

It's no problem. Good luck.

Gerald,

What is Stacey Spears refering to when talking about the AC3-update (for the 518)?

there is a bios revision v1.22 (EPROM upgrade), I believe that will allow pass through of DD and DTS digital signal, but if think it still does the dejittering of these.

Thanks Fred,

How do I check the Rev. number of my 518? If I press the display button on the 518 (whist the unit is in standby) the display shows ""518 1.22""; does this mean that my sample will pass-through DD and DTS signals.

Regards,
Edwin

Forgive my stupid post above: of course it means rev. 1.22 of the 518 software. Are you sure the 1.22 revision is the latest.

I had my 518 upgraded back in 2000 and 1.22 was the revision. It passes DD and DTS. It dejitters them too.

Hi Edwin

v1.22 is the most up to date version. I got a couple of new EEPROMS from Meridian about a month ago to update my 518s, and that was the version number.

Cheers

People are you sure the 518 with soft ver. 1.22 can dejitter DD and DTS? This sounds very unlogic to me. We are talking different things here, a bitsteam and a PCM signal. How could this possibly work? From a DVD?

Hi ehh000

I had two 518s. One was driving a pair of 18 bit 5ks, and I thought it was such a good upgrade, I bought another to drive my 18 bit 5k centre. Signal to both was from the outputs of a 561, and subsequently 568 processor. I actually preferred this sound to the other option, which was to upgrade the 5ks to 96/24. It was also far less expensive! Bob Stuart previously recommended that the 518 be placed in the chain just prior to the DAC, so that drove my thinking, rather than place a 518 after the CD transport, but before the processor. When used in this way, the improved sonics were available with movies as well as music. Really nice set up, and I have only now sold one 518 (to MarkS) as I have bought 96/24 6ks and sold the 5kC. I now use 602>518>6ks.

Cheers

George

PS Ossi, you are right, the 518 does not dejitter DD or DTS, it just passes it straight through when BIOS 1.22 is installed. v1.14 won't pass it at all...just silence! If the 518 is used as I describe above, you can still get the benefit with DD and DTS though! Also worth remembering that it won't handle 96K signals and it's not suitable for MHR streams.
